Default The question of homage to the latest looks

I love looking at the fall fashions, although the high end are out of my price range. Is it appropriate to wear pieces that reference catwalk styles? For example Prada has a lot of black lace with beige tones this season: is it tacky to wear a cheaper piece made of black lace that is obviously not of the exact style or quality of the Prada original? Or would you just look like a bad knock-off or wannabe? I just found a lace dress in my favorite thrift store, and am unsure about wearing it. I wouldn't try and pretend that it was Prada, obviously, just want to reference their current look.

^^I think it's fine. I don't see why you can't get inspiration from runway looks.

Inspiration is just the word I'm thinking of - flicking through my magazines and picking out the looks I like.

Sure, why not?

Designers get their inspiration from all sorts of things (vintage, etc.) so why can't we draw inspiration from them?

Definitely wear that lovely vintage dress you found at the thrift store! I have no problem wear designer inspired clothes, but I don't like wearing obvious cheap fake knock offs of runway items.

what you want to do is called "inspiration" and that is really what fashion is all about!

EVERYONE, from individuals to retail establishments use runway shows as inspiration. If the high-end designers are showing lace, everyone else will, too. It wouldn't make sense for the designers to show body-conscious bandage dresses (ala Herve Ledger), for example, and then have department stores selling flowy, boho styles.

As long as it doesn't falsely carry a designer's name, it isn't a knock-off. And you aren't a wannabe for drawing inspiration from designers you appreciate! The vintage idea is wonderful and I bet you will look great.
