Default Please help me pick out frames for glasses

Hi, Ladies

For the first time ever, I will have to buy eyeglasses. Would you please help me determine which frames are going to be the most flattering and stylish for my face?

I have a round face. I want glasses that make my eyes look farther apart. And, of course, I want to look very cool.

The only thing I know for sure: the frames need to be faux tortoise shell. It has the perfect colors for my auburn hair.

Any ideas? Know of any websites to learn from?

TIA!!!

What do you think of these Prada ones?

Or these? - also Prada

Or these Gucci ones?

Thanks for your help!

I like the guccis! I think darker glasses look nicer, and I like the shape better. :)

But if you have a rounder face, I think you need angled glasses, the first ones, as curvy ones would make your face look rounder!

I have a round face as well and wear glasses. I recommend something oblong like the top 2 Prada frames. A thicker temple also balances out a round face. Actually my glasses are tortoise shell and oblong--they are by Oakley. I'm having trouble finding a picture of them online but I'll keep searching. In any case definitely go into the optical shop and try different pairs on before ordering the frames. The employees are usually quite good at helping you determine what's best for your face shape.

Here they are:

The color is called Bottle Green Tortoise. I bought them a year ago so I'm not sure if they're still available.

These are the glasses I currently wear:

A nice, more oblong shape with a thicker temple. I'm blond with fair skin so the coloring is right for me.

Good luck and let us know what you choose!

My face is quite round and I find that rectangular frames look better on me - I used to have ones quite similar to the first prada style you have up which suits quite well - I have since lost them and replaced them with a cheapie pair till I have some more confidence to reinvest in something better haha.
It's often hard to determine by just looking - my sister tried on my glasses as her face is round too, but slightly smaller and slimmer, so the glasses were too wide. Unless you've tried on the styles, you might end up ordering and re-returning items purchased online. Keep us updated on how it all pans out.

(My friend has some hot miu miu tortoise shell styled glasses, so have a look into what they have available too)

I'm getting my first pair of glasses soon too and just to piggyback off this thread, which brands of eyeglasses do you wear and which brands do you think are best quality?

How much do these frames usually cost you? I want to get an idea before I walk into the store... TIA!

(BTW, those 3rd Prada frames in the second post are really pretty, as are the Oakley ones!)

Really as long as you aren't rough with your glasses then I don't think there is much difference between the high end designer brands vs. the mid level brands. It's all dependent on what style suits your face and your liking. I've worn designer frames from Dior and Oakley, but I've also worn Jill Stuart, Anne Klein, and Tura. Each pair has been durable. The best thing you can do is go to one or a few optical shops and just start trying things on to see what is appropriate for your face shape.

Prices vary greatly. The cost of frames can be $100 - $350 (or more or less, this is just to give you an idea). And the final cost all depends on if the lenses are high index, have anti-reflective coating, etc. The optician can help you decide which lenses are right for you.

I totally agree with the other posters regarding a rectangular/oblong frame for round faces. It really counterbalances the round face. I wear Gucci GG 1524 in black, they are pretty sleek looking. They are a tiny bit more rectangular than the picture (not so big), actually. They are still a little snug on my temples (darn my big head!) but they look neat.

If I can find an even wider version of this, I'd be very happy!

I have a very round face too, and I like ones which tend to squarer also. Because I have a small head, the very wide arms that are fashionable right now do nothing for me. I don't know about your colouring, but I have very yellow skin tone with warm brown hair and I find that even the dark tortoiseshell look dreadful on me. I also have some semi-rimless with thin copper frames on top which are very inconspicuous.

I find that Kate Spade makes some great frames, as does Anne Kline. My semi-rimless are by FILA, so they are lightweight and durable. Both of the pairs I wear most often are "budget" frames - Casino. I have these in this colour, and these are my everyday specs, in a lighter, warmer brown. I have had no quality issues with them whereas my friend has all kinds of trouble with hers, which cost her over twice as much.

Of course, this is tPF, so I'm sure you'll find some nice designer equivalents
