I am thinking about buying a blue coat (dark blue but not quite navy) however, most of my wardrobe is grey, brown or black (the whole grey/brown thing is another issue!), what do you think a blue coat would go with?
Many thanks for any advice! |

Many designers have mixed blue and black. Some years it is more popular and some years less so, but it is common. There are many plaids which combine dark blue and black as well.
And I personally like black and brown together, provided the brown leans towards the whiskey end of the spectrum instead of the chocolate. As long as there is a contrast and it doesn't look like you got dressed in the dark, I like mixing neutrals. |

I think you have to look at it against the shades you have specifically. In general, I'm not fond of dark blues with black or brown. It could be nice with some greys. But overall it sounds like a tough match.

^^^ I agree with this, there are no rules but you do need to see the clothes and the colours together in daylight to really get a feel for whether they will go together or not.
Personally I am a HUGE fan of navy and black but it has to be the right navy and the right black (different fabrics show black differently). |

I mix them as long as I can tell the colors apart.

I love mixing neutrals, as long as there is enough color contrast.
