Default My Latest Project!

Here it is! My linen dressy shirt. It originally started out as work shirt with some pleats and was to give me the opportunity to practice some technical details like collar stands, French cuffs and of course pleats. Things I don't do very often. The linen is almost white, it has an ivory cast to it. Not quite what I wanted when I ordered the fabric, but white enough to work on me. The fabric is butter soft and very comfortable. It takes a crease well, which is good since I have to re-press the pleats everytime I wash the shirt.
I used mother of pearl buttons to finish.

Sorry about the wrinkles...I was a lazy butt and didn't feel like ironing it again after I showed it off to my friends. It looks a lot better on me than just hanging there, but I'm no good at taking pictures of myself.

It looks great! I just started sewing for myself last year, and I finished a similar shirt in August. I was so proud of myself, and I love wearing it.

Something like this is a good basic skills shirt. My taste in clothes runs toward subtle and elegant. And this shirt proves simple is good. The trend these days seems to be over embellish everything! That looks garish to me. I'm not anti-embellisment, a little goes a long way. It's the details I tend to focus on.
