Default James Perse confusion...help!
I am trying to track down a dress that is showing as sold out on their website, so I called the main Customer Service number and a couple of individual boutiques. I asked both a sizing question: is the 1, 2, 3, 4 sequence of james perse sizing equivalent to XS/S/M/L or S/M/L/XL. Got 2 answers - main customer service says it's definitely XS/S/M/L and the NYC Boutique SA told me it's definitely S/M/L/XL. Neither would budge.

Gah! Which is it?? Can anyone who is familiar with this line let me know?? I need to know whether to purchase a 1 or a 2 when I eventually track this thing down!

EDIT: I'll add my measurements in case anyone has a sizing rec - I only own a couple of t-shirts in this brand and really have no idea how the dresses size. I am 5 foot 5, 118, 32D/24/37. So I'm usually a small, but I'm curvy which can push me into M territory with certain brands.

I've always thought of their sizing as s/m/l/xl. I say this because I'm really (really) busty and a standard large in tshirts like Splendid and C&C. In James Perse I usually wear a 3 instead of a 4 unless it's a button down.

I always thought XS/S/M/L, but I guess maybe the four sizes are meant to span XS-XL?

Size 1 definitely fits like an XS. I am TTS XS or a 0 on top, 30" bust on a good day and I can wear an American Eagle 0.

I wear a 3 in James Perse and it is baggy on me. I only purchase his shirts though and I don't like them super fitted. I'm 5'2/115/34B

I wear a 2 in tees and I think they are a bit baggy. I am 5'3 1/2 & 123lbs

My SA at Bloomies told me a 2 was a Small and 1 was an XS

It's definitely XS-L, all websites i've ever seen that carry James Perse such as ShopBop and etc. have said that, and they they always mention that the sizing chart is directly from JP.

Thank you so much. It looks like I might go with a 3 - I want the dress to fit slightly baggily and given what other people here have said about their measurements and their James Perse sizes, maybe a 3 would be best. Ah the joys of online shopping. This is the dress, btw (sorry for crappy photo, ShopBop has sold out and their photo, on a model, gave a much better idea of what it looks like):

I agree- we get our sizing guidelines straight from JP as well and XS=1, 4=L for sure :-).

I have that dress creditcard - love it! It's an ideal trans-seasonal piece and it dresses up really well.
I bought the size 1(XS) online, which is my usual size in James Perse, and it's perfect.
I'm 5'4" and quite small (US2-4)
