It is secret, just not spur of the moment. Elopement just means a secret marriage without a public engagement. I'm a chef, so I can only vacation certain times of the year-during our slower season- unfortunately no spur of the moment trips for me.

All of those dresses are out, so if anyone has any other suggestions...

I posted this in another wedding thread, but www.sajawedding.com has pretty and simple wedding dresses. Prices look to be about $800-1000 on the website, but a light colored bridesmaid dress would make a good casual option and they run $350-$650.

I don't have any formal dresses from the brand, only cocktail dresses, but I really like them. Their store is in Nolita in NYC. I don't know if they travel well, but the sales people are super helpful and I usually see the designer working in the store too when I pop in. They would definitely be able to answer your questions.

I also like the fit of the dresses a lot. I find that J Crew dresses tend to fit very tall and slender people. I'm 5'4" and I have to buy petite at J Crew! In any other brand I can fit normal sizes. Saja is better perportioned for me. The sizes are true to size or up to a half size big.

So back to square one. What other brands should I look into for a less formal destination wedding dress? Or should I just look at "regular" white dresses once spring styles start coming out?
TBH I was not crazy about the silk tricotine dresses at J.Crew, the fabric does not feel as nice as their other fabrics. The new Sophia chiffon dress is nice IRL, the crinkle chiffon doesn't feel/look as cheap as the tricotine. I ended up going with one of the cotton dresses, which is surprisingly luxe. If you still want to try a J.Crew dress, just stay away from the silk tricotine, it does not look so good in the white, as you noticed. Saja also makes nice affordable dresses, I liked Thread, too.

I really liked some of the Nicole Miller dresses. They are only sold at one store locally, but they didn't stock any of the styles i had picked from the (very small) pictures. I decided to go try some on anyway today and picked out 3 styles I liked. I LOVED them all! Her dresses are perfect for my body-I felt great in all of them. I eliminated one because it would be harder to travel with, but I would be thrilled with either of the others. I called my mom to come see them and she loved them too.

I may try to find some of the other styles to try on, but it would be so much easier to be able to buy it in town. I am so excited-finally a wedding dress that felt like me and not a costume.

I really like the Saja dresses but they aren't sold anywhere near me.
