Default in-store personal shopper?

Has anyone ever used an in-store personal shopper service? I've seen this available at Saks and Macys but I've never used it before. My husband has finally decided that he needs a new suit wardrobe and I'd like to make the shopping as stress free as possible. (I'm also slyly hoping that the shopper would pull some looks for me too!)

TIA

I knew a lady who worked as one. It's very good for those who need help with shopping, maximizing their outfits, and chosing items that last. Call the store and ask them what is offered with it.

I used once. He was great and could mix and match pieces that I myself would never thought to try. However, I ended up paying a far lot more than I originally planned

^^My friend's mom used one too, and while she liked it, she spent a lot more than she would have otherwise too! The personal shopper would basically put things that were her size and style aside when they came in. Then she would periodically call her and my friend's mom would go to the store and try the stuff on. It sounds really convenient but it might encourage you to buy more than you would on your own.

ETA: This was at Nordstrom

Thanks for the info. I think I will give the personal shopper thing a whirl. I'm hoping that we'll be able to get some good mix & match separates. That way even if we do spend more than we plan, we'll be able to get more outfits of what we get than if we tried to do it on our own.

I've used one at Nordstrom a few times and she was pretty helpful.

I work as a personal shopper part time and it's really fun. I'm not at a store but make appointments and meet clients at stores. I think it's worth it because sometimes a personal shopper can make you think outside the box and it's nice to have someone tell you the truth on how you look, etc. IMO, Nordstrom and Saks have good shoppers but they do encourage you to spend more.

I tried one once but they don't seem to understand that shopping for clothes is lifestyle + likes + current trends. She totally missed the lifestyle part and kept showing me clothese that I do like, is very fashionable, but probably will wear only once a year.

All of my experiences w/ personal shoppers are wonderful.

Go in with a budget amount and perhaps bring a favorite shirt/tie to match/complement, whatever.

I have never spent more than I wanted to, and even if I did, it was money well spent.

It is SUCH a time saver!

PS - They will give you a complimentary cup of coffee/cappuchino from the cafe, as well!

Oh..you should tell me your trick how to put your foot down. Sometimes it's getting so difficult to say "no" after a personal shopper spends lots of time with you. I think this is a part of their tactic too.

Where did you shop with a personal shopper by the way?

J.Crew is offering 20% off for those who sign up with a personal shopper before 8/29. I just spent a mini fortune there and fully intended to return everything just so I could get the $170 back. Well, I still plan to do that but I after reading the feedback here, I am now looking forward to seeing what they recommend--and I'll have some extra cash to play with.

I actually do this too. I suggest finding someone like that, not just at one store. I always find one great piece at one store, but will find something awesome to match at a different store, and it's much more worth it than spending the whole time at just one store. I also always got the feeling that the personal shoppers at a department store don't really care as much about the look. They want you to just buy a lot.

Also, the personal shoppers at Tobi.com are SO helpful. It's their own personal goal of the store to not sell, but to find something that the shopper is looking for. I had a great experience with a couple personal shoppers there when I was looking for pants. They are also really good about sizing and finding styles that suit you. And, when you do the live chat, you get $20 off your next purchase! They are really, really nice.

Pandora...Explain up front what your budget it...like $150 for a pair of pants, or $500 to fill in all the holes in your fall/winter wardrobe, or you need a new coat and don't want to spend over $X.

I've used PS at Nordies and Saks.

Do you have to pay in-store personal shoppers?
