I'm 23 and am feeling that I'm getting too old to wear spaghetti strap tops/dresses/tanks. I feel like I should be wearing more age appropriate clothes which means being more conservative.

However, I have seen women in their 40s and 50s who can pull off spaghetti strap tanks without looking trashy or "trying too hard".

What do you think? Are spaghetti straps or for people over 21?

I think that as long as you're in your 20s you can wear just about anything if you have the body for it. Spaghetti straps aren't as "young" as stuff like message t-shirts ("I Heart My Boyfriend"). Personally, I think it's more of an issue of "does it look good on you?"

That kind of stuff should be evaluated on a piece by piece basis. If it's a pink, lace-trimmed babydoll top with spaghetti straps, it's best left to a 14 year old. Spaghetti straps can be age appropriate as long as the style is consistent with your age.

Also would like to add that spaghetti straps look best on women with average or smaller sized breasts, like a c or smaller. Anything bigger just looks wierd in them IMO.

I agree. I never considered breast size until I read some of the comments here but I guess that makes sense as well. So I'd also had how one's arms look. I certainly would refrain from any sleeveless shirt if I had flabby/ wrinkly arms. It's just not becoming. But that's just my two cents.

I think it's got more to do with the way your arms look, not your age!!
Madonna can still get away with spaghetti straps... but I have "bat wngs" so there a no-go for me....

I agree, it depends on the quality of your skin around that area and how your arms are shaped.

Age is an arbitrary number. It's about how it looks on you. If your arms and shoulders are nice and toned, and it doesn't show to much of what you don't want to show, then go for it.

23 too old! Good grief, wait til you get to 43 then worry about it.
I'm 30 and have flabby arms and will probably still wear spaghetti straps when the summer arrives.

I think it depends on the shape of the arms rather than age.

Given that women of all ages can wear strapless, I don't see a big difference with spaghetti straps. It is totally dependent on the style of the item in question and the shape of the woman wearing it.

Thanks ladies for all of your responses. I'm surprised nobody thinks age is a consideration when dressing appropriately. When I was in college I noticed women wearing spaghetti straps all the time and thought nothing of it. When I was in graduate school, I noticed that nobody wore spaghetti straps and wondered if it was because the average age of the student in my graduate program was 35, versus college, where the average age was 25. One of my girlfriends who just turned 23 was told by her parents that she dresses "too young" and needs to start wearing more conservative clothing.

Hm, I've never thought of spaghetti straps as being age-specific. I think that if you look good in something, and it looks appropriate and tasteful on you, you should wear it....whatever it is!

(I'm mid 30's and wear spaghetti strap tops frequently, hehe)
