Default how does your weight/size/shape determine your fashion style?

i tend to be more curvy so i go for very classical/conservative clothes.
i think if i was skinner i would totally go for more liberal styles. for example i love the kate moss look, but that style does not look good on my figure. i tend to go for more catherine zeta jones style, deep v-necks, and well cut, fitted dresses.

how about you guys?

I'm tall and a tad chubby. I'm trying to lose about 15-20 pounds so I can fit into all my cute clothes again. Right now because of my weight, I tend not to wear form fitting clothes because it makes me look bigger. I wear empire waist dresses and tops to hide my tummy. I have a fairly good sized bust so I try to draw attention there by wearing v-necks or pretty necklaces so people don't focus on my waist and thighs. And because I'm tall (5'10") I keep my skirts to just below the knee or mid calf so it doesn't look like I'm showing too much leg. I never really like skirts that are shorter than just below the knee because it makes me feel uncomfortable when I sit. I like to have my skirt covering my knees for some reason. But being tall has never stopped me from wearing 4" heels!

I have gained weight around my middle and need to lose 15-20 lbs. I have been wearing more dresses and shirts with jackets. Things that do not hug my middle. I cant really wear the lowrise pants because of my middle and I do not want muffin top. I miss wearing cute fitted t shirts and sweaters! I also wears heels a lot to make me seem taller and thinner.

When I was younger and I wore what was in style, I probably ended up looking kind of... hoochie (!) because I had a big chest even when I was a teen, so everything low-cut showed cleavage. I was also an avid fan of the mini skirt. Now I wear longer tops to hide my short torso, try to avoid the cleavage thing (although it's still difficult) and my pants fit properly. I'm shaped like an inverted triangle though, so that means lots of dropped waists, looser tops and tighter bottoms. I had to give up asymmetrical tops because they look ridiculous on me - I'm envious because I think they look great on other people.

oooh! great topic for a thread!

I'm straight up and down - no boobs, no bum, and skinny as a rake, so my style is sort of effeminately masculine. I love man-tailored pants with a crisp collared shirt and something girly to accessorise (pearls, necklace, perfume LOL).

I never wear anything with a plunging neckline because my collarbone kind of sticks out (er, and I have no boobs, so no cleavage LOL), but I wish I could!

My casual stuff is quite kiddy, I suppose, in keeping with my straight-up-and-downedness... tight jeans with fun t-shirts. I love old things, like a worn denim mini with an old, out of shape tank and wrinkly, scuffed boots. I sound like a bum, but mum always makes sure I look tidy LOL - even though I'm 26...

I love anything with a pattern or a print.

my shape/size doesn't really determine my style... I wear what I want!

i_wona -- i'm like you! no boobs, but my butt is starting to get big from sitting in an office chair all day and snacking (bad habit. but can't help it), but i'm really skinny (it's genetic). i tend to wear trapeze or dresses with a loose shape up top so i can hide my unboobliness, and never anything tight or revealing since i have nothing to show. but i'm pretty short, so i would never wear a long skirt or a calf-length skirt. i like minis with flats, because the length makes my legs look longer, and the flats keep the skirt from looking hookerish. i always wish i were taller so i wouldn't need to get my hems done, but i never wished i had a different body shape, because i can't imagine my body being another shape other than the one i have. everyone i know has a problem with their body: whether they want smaller or bigger boobs, more or less of a butt, smaller waists or longer legs.

It has taken me way too long to figure out exactly what works for me, but now that I know it is all based on my shape. I am curvy and I need to wear clothes that are fitted in the waist. If I wear a dress with no defined waist I look pretty bad. I just realized this year that empire doesn't work for me (I always thought it did so half my dresses are empire. Often when I wore them I thought it was just me feeling like I was not in my best shape or something, but it really isn't - it was the dress!

So shape plays a big part and I think people look their best when they dress for their shape.

HMMMMM!!! Well, I am built very solid - one of my bffs says I'm like Beyonce with a bit of Venus Williams thrown in there. I grew up in California, so I am very West Coast style to the extreme - I love jeans, flip flops, tanks and hoodies - and if it's not jeans, it's Juicy pants or some kind of sweatpants. I don't think my body type really influences my style, but it affects what brands I wear - a lot of my tops are Abercrombie and Hollister, so if I were built any bigger I wouldn't be able to buy those brands. Buying jeans would still be okay because I wear Lucky and 7FAM. As far as dresses go, it can be hard because I have to find some that are form fitting on top but don't squeeze my figure all the way down - so I like looser fitting, flowy dresses...but those are usually built bigger up top as well. Shorts are usually my worst enemy, but sometimes I get lucky and find some great ones! Doesn't happen too often though. I love bermudas and most of them don't look good on me because I have short legs.

I am quite small with not very long legs *sob*, so I always have to be careful what kind of trousers to wear, which length to choose in skirts (kneelength works best) and try to wear high heels.
Also my shoulders are quite broad (all people ask if I am a professional swimmer - very annoying), so I can't wear shirts which have a round neck as well as tops with thin straps. My shoulders will look huge in those....

I'm curvy/ hourglass/ 5'7". The bright side is that I look good in most dresses and "classic" styles. I don't get rolls when I get fat; I always stay small in the middle, so as long as I'm wearing something fitted at the waist, I look shapely and not too big. The bad part is that even when I'm thin, if I try to wear things that look good on tiny lean girls, I seriously look like a hooker. No short shorts, no mini skirts, no tight jeans, no tube tops, no bikinis EVER. If a top is too low or has a keyhole cut out or something, I HAVE to wear a tank top underneath. If a skirt or dress has a slit, I see if I can get a slip that looks cute peeking out (otherwise I can't wear it). Luckily I can wear bermuda shorts really well, if not summer would be a b*tch. I seriously hope they never go out of style!

I love anything "wrap" or "belted" and I looooove wide leg pants. Besides bermudas, these are like my wardrobe life savers!

ahhh - "unboobliness" - I knew there must be a technical term for it!

ITA about the calf length/long skirts (bad) and about the minis with flats (good) - love that look and it works for me too. I usually pair a tiny skirt with a conservative top (crew neck long sleeve spencer or a casual collared shirt) too offset the hookerishness, as you say! And since I have nothing to show up top either, this seems logical to me LOL

I alos love trapeze/tunic, especially ones that have a bit of a bubble shape - that flat-chested, skinny-armed look in a voluminous top seems to work best for me. Yay for unboobliness!

I'm short with a sort of pear shape. A lot of things just don't look good on me if they are not cut right in the bottom because it makes my thighs look even bigger. I don't have much up top so certain tops aren't right either obviously. I'm planning on probably having lipo in my thighs and getting bigger boobs so I am really curious as to how much of my clothing I'll still be able to wear afterwards. I'm guessing some of the tanks tops will be a no-go!

I have an hourglass. I'm 5'3 about 115 lbs. but with D boobs and a huge butt. I used to play soccer for years and I swear all the muscle I built up in my thighs has now turned to fat.

I HATE my butt and my thighs. I'm always cautious that my shorts aren't too short on my thighs, my juicy pants aren't too tight around my butt and my top isn't showing off too much cleavage! Other than that I wear what I want.

Except for white pants, but man do I WISH I could wear those!
