hey everyone! i bought a pair of joe's provocateur in raven today after falling in love with the metallic stitching on the butt pockets! if anyone is wondering, the wash & fit are both wonderful but the rise is pretty high. it hits right below the belly button (NOTHING like the model), but surprisingly comfortable.
anyways, i know these are "petite" but they're still too long on me. all i wear are flip flops, flats, and sneakers so i need to hem them. the hem doesn't seem to be distressed, so i was thinking of just getting it hemmed regularly (not original hem) to save money. i've only done original hem before so i'm afraid they'll look awful. based on the pictures, do you think they'll be ruined or just fine? thanks! ![]() ![]() ![]()

I would just get the regular hem. They're not really "distressed," (no rips or anything), just a little faded.

depends on how picky you are. my old tailor convinced me to do unoriginals on a pair that didn't really need them, but when they came out, i wasn't happy.. even though they looked fine. no one really looks too closely at your hem except for you :)

I like the look more of an original hem. Or, just make sure they use a REALLY thick denim thread. I was so mad because this tailor I went to, I told to use denim thread and use the original hem and everything and they used TEE SHIRT thread. The jeans look sooo bad. I made it so clear of how to hem them, and they said they understood, but they made me pay a lot for a thread that will just fall apart.

I've had both original and regular hem done. I personally prefer just getting regular, because I think it looks more "real," and will only get original hem done if the hem is extra narrow or something. As with daisy's experience, though, it depends on the tailor, I guess.

When I got the original hem on my TR joey, it was a bit crooked (I can get picky) but the hem blended in nicely. The thread was pretty good last time, so I think I will just get them hemmed regularly to save money. I will check the thread that will be used so it doesn't turn out to be a disaster.
Thanks for helping:)

^ Okay, good! You can always go to a fabric store and pick out the exact thread you want, and bring the pants with you, hold the thread up to find the right thread. You can then take both pants and thread to the tailor and ask to use that specific thread for them. It's much more worth it if you want them to have a certain look, you know?
And yeah, laureen, it does depend on the tailor. I had a tailor who once wouldn't take in a shirt of mine, just a stitch here and a stitch there, I knew what I wanted and asked for it, but she yelled at me! She finds it easier to hem really hard things than really simple things I guess.
