Coldsteel....I really love the scarf. It is gorgeous! Actually, there is nothing pictured above that I wouldn't want to be mine!

Unfortunately the dress is too small on me to wear it around, because it won't zip, but really I'm just happy to have it as a display piece and as photography costuming!

I have several other vintage pieces I love, I'm really attracted to vintage accessories though mostly. However, I would absolutely love to buy some 50's day dresses to wear on a regular occasion. I absolutely love vintage, and I can't think of anything more fun and unique!
Okay, that's it, I'M JEALOUS!

This may sound weird and a little gross, but some vintage items (especially those from the 40s-60s) tend to have lots of perfume and cigarette smoke odor. While that's not a dead giveaway, sometimes it can come out of a garment when you least expect it. I was going through my mom's closet one day and found a nice little handbag. Opened it up, and KAPOW! It's like someone soaked their fist in an ashtray and chanel no. 5 and suckerpunched me.

The other thing I do is look at the tags. Older garment tags (60s and earlier) are sewn a little differently. Here's some detail shots of different tags in my Lilli Ann.

They seem to have less stitches securing the tags versus my circa 80s Christian Dior coat, which has the label sewn all around.

How I've been able to tell if an item is real or not is generally by construction. Yes, I know there are some really good fakes out there but even in those small details are missing. In my Versace dress I checked the lining over (medusa heads interwoven in plus seams matched up) and it hasn't failed me yet.
Here's the tag -

I feel that the older designer/more expensive clothing is, the nicer the tags are. That could just be me, though.

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot my Bullocks of Pasadena coat.

I couldn't believe it was only $30. All the buttons are so well-sewn which is such a far cry from clothing I buy new and it's one of the few vintage coats I've bought that didn't need a good airing out. The cashier who rang me up said that if it fit her, she would have snagged it in a heartbeat!

Queen Kitty, I'm in LOVE with your Ostrich trim dress!

I could kill myself.
Today I stumbled upon a christian dior blazer. $9.99

Didn't buy it, because it said "made in usa" and though I did some research on my phone I couldn't find anything so I put it down assuming it was a fake..

I feel awful. Can't even go back and get it because it was in another city.

^^^ That sucks. Why didn't you buy it and then thrift it if you realized it was fake? And if you know it was fake, why are you so upset now?

Is it a fake? I did some research and it appears to be real, I still don't understand why they were made in the US. If anyone has any info please let me know. There are some selling on ebay for up to $400 and with the same label "made in usa"

I should have bought it, that was the plan, and then I could have exchanged it. I lined up at the cash and everything but when I saw the label again I chickened out thinking I am about to buy a fake so I put it down and walked out.

The tag says "Christian Dior"
Second line in smaller print says Paris New York

Then there is a small tag with the size number, and behind it another tag saying made in usa and some other stuff.

Something like this, same buttons.

I'm going back to get it tomorrow, if all works out it will still be there. There was another jacket that has some potential that I came across as well. Hopefully they'll both be there.

Thank you ColdSteel, that helps a lot :)

I compaired that tag to my vintage christian dior vest. Its the same! I hope you can get it!! I got this vest for $7, due to a green stain on the inside, I got it drycleaned, and everything went away! Hahaha. Here's a pic.

How is that size 2P? It's huge! More like a 8 or 10.

I have a vintage Christian Dior skirt suit and the tag looks just like the one in the photo.

Good luck -- I hope it's still there!
