I hope some of you ladies might be able to help me…

I’m attending a wedding in the US this summer –, I have been attending a lot of weddings the past few years, but this is my first American wedding.. So – what is a girl to wear?

The Ceremony is held in the afternoon and there will be dancing in the garden by night… So… I’m guessing elegant but comfortable… But – what does that mean in the US ;-)

I’m thinking of the following accessories – off course depending on the dress:

Balenciaga multi-colored shoes + Balenciaga Oval Clutch




Or

Shy stilettos with bone heel + Miu Miu metallic evening bag..




Any ideas ladies? I’m beginning to feel a bit desperate….

i'd need a dress to assess better...i don't think either of the accessory combos would be inappropriate for a wedding, though. if you haven't purchased the dress yet, i would reccomend looking into bcbg's selection; i've worn a nice, knee-length bcbg dress in the past few weddings i've attended. at the last one, which was in hawaii i wore:

Ok, so short dresses are not appropriate? I wasn't sure whether long dresses where preferable...

I haven't found the perfect dress yet - that is my problem! I have a feeling that most of my summer-dresses are too 'crazy' for an American wedding, and the formal ones I have are black or white - which at least where I come from is appropriate for weddings...

As long as you arent wearing any colors that conflict with the wedding party or the bride you should be fine.

I like the Balaciaga set you have out, I would wear that.

ok, so knowing the colors of the wedding beeing lavender and dark purple, I should avoid that - and white off course - but everything else goes? (in a classy sense)..

i would stay clear of black too, other than that most everything else should be fine.

short dresses are okay provided they're not ridiculously short/hooker-wear. i would usually stay away from long/floor-length dresses unless the wedding is VERY fancy. given that it's in the summer you probably wouldn't want to wear a long dress anyway. knee-length or lower thigh would probably be good lengths. =]

I'll search my wardrobe once again... and be sure to post dresses in here... it's always nice with 2. opinions.. My BF just think everything looks wonderful.. Cute, but irritating

I wouldn't do floor length dress since it's an afternoon ceremony and there's dancing by the garden. I think knee-length cocktail dress would be fine. IMO people dress pretty casual to American wedding, sometimes too casual.

Thanks! Thats what I'm looking for! - CUSTOMS.. I like to dress up, so casual wouldn't work for me, but I'll go for a knee length Coctail dress then...

I love Phillip Lim - but find that his dresses are to short for me without opaques - and I think it's too hot for that during summer - so I'm desperately searching for something else...

That is the combo I will be wearing, just needed to check out, whether if it was to 'wild' for an American wedding...

for afternoon weddings, a nicer summer dress would probably be the most appropriate, or a cocktail dress - generally one would wear long formal dresses for evening weddings only. i would probably go with something along these lines:

My number one - dream dress for the wedding is this wonderful Blue Balenciaga Dress.. But I cannot seem to find it anywhere... the danish retailer only bought the black version...
