Dress 911 - Where to buy cocktail/party dress??

First of all, I'm a guy (nevermind how I found this site). I promised my gf a red dress for this Saturday 03/15/08 WEEKS ago; today I go to the mall, and all the stores only have crappy cotton summer daytime dresses! I went to Abercrombie, Aeropostale, American Dillards, Eagle, Hollister, JC Penney, Victoria's Secret, and Express, but they had nothing suitable! The only thing even close were prom dresses and stuff in the juniors section. Help! Where do you girls go to get NICE, nighttime, little red dresses? My budget is around $100. I think there's still time to buy online, so please send me or email me some suggestions!

You should also post your question in the wardrobe forum above GDiscussion. Do you have a Macys, Nordstrom or Bloomingdales in your area?

Hi gr8theart; the answer to your questions are no, no, and no! There is not a single decent upscale store in this crappy little town I live in, in the middle of texas... man, I miss new england!

I like the wine colored dress, but you should go with what you think your GF will like - you can always order them both to see them in person and return the one you don't want.

hey - the dresses here were nice, but take it from the most high maintenance girlfriend in existence - if you promised a red dress, it had better be red

I just bought this $98 one! She'll look soooo good in it (she's a size 4)! It's just how I pictured it...

Lvpiggy, let me ask you one question though... why the "deep red" instead of the regular "red" (see below). I went with your recommendation and got the "deep red", but I'm curious about your rationale.

Humm... maybe I should get her some shoes to go with it too...

Dresden - I chose the deep red because I feel like the shade imparts a more sophisticated feeling, esp. as you mentioned that you wanted to avoid the "prom dress" look. I have one of the evening gowns from the Sung boutique in the bright red, and I love it except that I find the color a bit to bright - like primary, elementary-school red almost. I included the picture so you can see; note that the chiffon especially is a bit too bright, so since your entire dress has a chiffon layer I thought the bright red would be too much . . .

re: the shoes . . . . you know what most of the ladies on this forum would say . . . . RED SOLE SHOES!

The red dress saga continues. I went to BlueFly and got this bcbg item for $116:

I even like it better than the Sung dress, since this one has a silk shell.
I had to pay extra for DHL 2nd day delivery... I'm praying that it gets here by Saturday. Fingers crossed!
