I visited a vintage clothing boutique this past week. I love the look of vintage clothing, accessories because you can't replicate that type of fashion/intricacy/details today. Also, its a one of a kind item, so you won't spot anyone else on the street with it.
However, I do feel a bit scared of trying on/wearing vintage items; especially the older vintage... Doesn't it make you scared that someone else has worn that item? And...that person could possibly not be alive today? What if that item is "haunted" or carries a strange vibe? I know...I'm not very superstitious, but I do wonder. I've heard some pretty crazy stories. Do you have any to share? |

I'm more apprehensive about vintage clothing because of the hygiene aspect. I don't really want to wear clothes someone else has sweat in and what not, it grosses me out.

I love vintage, b/c i love putting something on and thinking about all the other things someone experienced in whatever it is....like someone could have gotten engaged in the very dress/shirt/whatever i am wearing...they could have met the pope...they could have experienced their best day ever in whatever im wearing. I think about when they bought it, if they thought is was the most beautiful thing ever, if they saved and scrimped to be able to buy it.
i think its dreamy and a little romantic. |

not at all.. i mean, the first people to live in my house are most certainly dead and that doesn't bother me
if the item looks dirty or somehow damaged then that's another matter but i wouldn't not buy something just because someone else has worn it before.

I haven't bought anything vintage so far, I just left some of my stuff at vintage/second-hand boutiques . . . but
Doesn't it make you scared that someone else has worn that item? You can and probably should always wash the clothes, if we're talking about the hygienic aspect here. And...that person could possibly not be alive today? I don't think I would mind, vintage is obviously bound to be old and you can never know who the original owner was/how many owners there were, but celebrities do it too, if that is any comfort! Emma Watson wore a vintage dress that used to belong to actress Anny May Wong who died in the 60s. ![]() What if that item is "haunted" or carries a strange vibe? I don't really believe in that stuff.

If this were the case, then a person would not be able to buy previously owned anything - no vintage clothing, no used cars, no houses that weren't brand new, no antiques whatsoever. Any of those things, even collectibles, could carry "vibes", if a person believes in that sort of thing. I tend not to be very superstitious. I don't commonly shop vintage clothing, but it would not bother me if I found an item I liked.

We should save some of our present day stuff for 20 years and then we could wear our own vintage! How I wish I saved some of my flannels, plaids, fringe bags, shoulder pad jackets, and fringe accessories from the 70's and early 80's!

I will buy whatever I like in terms of jewelry, jackets, cardigans, tops, blouses, dresses, or skirts without thinking twice, as long as I don't see any visible stains or spots of course.
However, I never buy vintages pants or shorts, not really sure why, maybe I just haven't found anything I liked, and my legs are too short! |

No, vintage/used stuff does not bother me. I'm not superstitious at all and I don't believe in hauntings. If you think the item is dirty you just wash it. You know, people buy clothes in the store all the time, wear them, and return them, so everything you buy is potentially not brand new.

Absolutely! (About a million years ago) I bought a 50's black velvet and net prom dress in large part after talking to and seeing pictures of the woman who wore it when it was new. (it was also GORGEOUS and $5 at a yard sale). It was fun to go back by her place after my own prom and share the pictures of it's second go round with her. I love knowing, or imagining the glamorous past lives that vintage clothes may have had!
