Hi Alice in Italy! I've never heard of Woolrich... everyone in Chicago seems to wear Northface.

Woolrich has been around since the 1800's, it started in Pennsylvania- kind of along the lines of LL Bean.

I have a Northface Parka for cold days, a Marmot Parka for throwing in the car if I'm driving in blizzards, and a couple of wool pea coats for slightly cold weather. We get 30 to 40 below zero occasionally.

^ Ahah this is fun!! as there is written inside MADE IN THE USA I always thought that it was popular there LOL
It's so popular that there are millions of fake on eBay Italy!!!!
This is the classical parka of Woolrich. It retails 550 euro now in Italy. You can see it everywhere but in my opinion is the best!
It's funny that North Face is not so popular here and Woolrich is not so popular there LOL

Fine if you wear a fur coat, but I wish you wouldn't turn this thread into a justification as to why you wear one. Especially since we've had many heated discussions on the topic already, if you do a search.
Darling, I am from Russia. Fur in our climate much better than any insulate, even if it goes on Everest. Don't hurry to judge, Iguess, you're never lived in 7 months long winter.

Okay, you win. Discussion about the relevance of fur coats is over. Yay, we can continue on without this thread turning into a flameball like every other thread in which fur coats get mentioned.

I'm a native Californian, so I know nothing about heavy coats! LOL I just moved to a cold climate 2 years ago.

^^Me too! I visited Chicago in November and just about died from the cold! When my friend first moved there, she told me about fall coats and winter coats...I was like, "Wait, there are coats for different seasons?"

^Same here...except I just moved to Oregon. I had never owned an umbrella or rain coat, so I definitely suffered....even though umbrellas are pointless here because the rain always gets underneath them anyway, and soaks you.

I have an Anne Klein pea coat. With a sweater underneath it keeps me warm in NYC winters!

I live in a really dry mountain climate, so the cold here is not that bone-chilling damp-in-your-bones cold like in other parts of the US.

Usually my Patagonia down jacket or Eddie Bauer down parka with a hood for super-cold days and Patagonia R4 jacket or wool coats for milder winter days do the trick. If I can get away with a cute sweater, down vest and scarf, I'll do that too.
