Default Best button-up shirt for long torsos?

Hey ladies -

I need your help finding brands that make button-up dress shirts that are long enough for me! Any shirt that I've ever tried on comes barely past my belly button... and I still have 5 or 6 inches of torso after that. Any ideas for affordable brands that make longer shirts?

It's so frustrating because it seems that for women's sizes, a larger size only means a wider shirt, not a longer one. It's impossible to even find one long enough to be tailored! My dress code at school is professional and I mean, nothing says professional more than nice trousers with a classic button up. Help!?

Hmmm... how long are we talkikng here? Do you know how long your orso is (say from shoulder to crotch?). Also, how long do you need the shirt to be? With button ups, I tuck them in and when I wear high waisted pants, the shirt can be a bit shorter, if you know what I mean. I'm just trying to guage whether or not you need a shirt that falls to your crotch/hips/belly button/pelvis... sorry, I know this sounds really creepy, given the areas I'm asking about, but trust me, it's all kosher LOL!

Hahaha. It's long. 31" from shoulder to hip and 34" from shoulder to crotch. All of my pants are... hmmm... I would say mid-low rise and I would like to be able to tuck it in, preferably. I definitely can't rock the high waisted ones (though that might be an idea if I can't find any shirts!)

EDIT!!!: oh my gosh, I apparently have forgotten how to use a ruler. It's 18" from shoulder to hip and 21" from shoulder to crotch. Hahah.. I read that and was like "No way that's almost 3 feet!"

I should also probably add that I typically need a XS/S and that seems to make this even harder!

^ LOL, you're so funny!

Actually 21 inches from shoulder to hip doesn't seem that long to me?! Most tops are between 18-24 inches (measured from the back of the neck to the hem.

With a mid-waisted pant, do you still have trouble tucking the shirt in? I'm mystified!

I got out a few of my shirts and measured and they seem to be between 16 and 18", which doesn't come close to being able to tuck it in (especially on the sides where it is cut shorter). When I wear them untucked with dress pants I have to wear a similar colored cami under them to keep from showing skin, so they are definitely too short. 24" sounds perfect, though!

I actually meant my pants are somewhere between a mid-rise and a low-rise. They sit right on my hip bones.

Did you try JCREW? I am very tall and I found JCREW shirts to be long even in regular sizes.

In Australia, we have a brand called Marcs (sometimes "Marcs & Babydoll" for its younger spinoff) and I love their dress shirts. They're a well-priced option and always look nice and crisp... Sorry, I don't think this is much help for you AliciaMarie LOL - I'm just trying to sort out my train of thought.

I know that ShopBop usually lists the length of their tops - perhaps if you have a look at their Tops>Blouses you might find some brands and styles that would suit you in terms of length and budget? Revolve might also be a good starting point, just to narrow down some brands that you can then go and try on.

The other thing you could do is get some dressy tunics (say, with a mandarin collar or in a plain style but in a formal material, like silk) and wear them tucked into your pants? They should definitely be long enough! I do this sometimes when I find tunics with lovely necklines and patterns - it's amazing how business-like they look as soon as you tuck them into a straight, slimline pencil skirt. Don't limit yourself to a dress shirt - there should be plenty of long tops that will suddenly look professional as soon as you tuck them into a nice tailored pair of pants!

Hope that helps!

Oh, and sorry about all the typos in my other post... "orso?" "talkikng?" What was i thinking! Thank goodness you were able to read between the mistakes LOL

I have a long torso as well and I found this lovely white shirt at Nordstrom last summer. The brand is Classiques Entier, I was shocked at how well it fit as most button up shirts fall short on me. :)

I just got a very nice white button up collared shirt from Banana Republic and it is plenty long. I wear it out, but could tuck if I wanted to. They also have women's tall section with plenty of longer tops. I am 5'9" and very long waisted so I have this problem too. I found some great long camis and tanks at Old Navy. Good Luck.

I have a long torso too, but without the benefit of long legs, unfortunately! I find that Banana Republic shirts fit me well. I have to be careful not to dryclean them though (wash in cold, line dry etc) because that will shrink anything.

H&M Shirts are pretty long as it goes for t-shirts and tops, but no blouses. They are great for everyday basics.
