Talking Tuna seviche! Delicious!

...more of my raw foods diet lifestyle shifting attempt here...you don't have to give up seafood to eat Raw!!

Requires some marinating time...

Serves 4
3/4 lb sushi-grade tuna, thinly sliced
1/4 C red onion, thinly sliced
1/4 C celery, thinly sliced
1/4 C red or yellow bell peppers, thinly sliced
1/2 fresh jalapeno, thinly sliced
Chives, for garnish

Marinade:
1 C freshly squeezed orange juice (I was too lazy to go to the store for this and everything still turned out OK)
1/2 C freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 C freshly squeezed lime juice
1/4 C raw soy sauce (nama shoyu)
3/4 C raw olive oil (cold pressed is OK as I understand)
1 T minced garlic
1 T peeled minced fresh gingeroot (again, too lazy to go to the store so i used a few shakes of the ground ginger from my spice cabinet)

The idea is to marinate the tuna in the marinade for at least an hour. then, lay out 4 chilled plates, combine the marinade and tuna with the veggies mix well and spoon onto the salad plates.

Buon appetito!

Sounds interesting! I'm really afraid to eat raw meats/fish though but this raw diet interests me...

Sorry to hijack your thread...but just wondering...does that mean chicken and pork would be out of the diet or raw foods diet allows for those cooked? TIA!

^^ no worries, azia, I'm a super newb to raw foods so cooked chicken and pork would not fall into the raw foods realm as I understand.

I hear you on the raw. It's important to get sushi quality seafoods from your butcher, or at least just sear the meats to keep in line with the raw lifestyle. I don't think cooked chicken or pork would fall into the traditional raw diet.

Azia, or others, please check out the 'raw food - Carol Alt books' thread in the health and fitness subforum. There is so much great info there far beyond anything I could post here.

^ That's PGal, I've passed by that thread but I'll look more into it. Good to know that chicken and pork is cooked, though. I think chicken is one of those meats that you just can't get around not cooking.

Actually my reasons are not the best....I'm just lazy to cook and I figure learning to prepare raw foods would be a good way to eat less processed stuff AND not have to cook things! lol.

Anyhoo, thanks for the recipe and explaination!

This looks delicious, I love raw tuna! I think it may be too expensive for me to get all the fresh citrus needed, though.

^^ It truly is wonderful, and I even had a leftover tuna medallion or two which kept marinating in the marinade. The citrus juices (lemon, lime, plus the soy) "cook" the tuna in the process over time, which is really cool and makes it even more flavorful a couple days later.

Enjoy!!
