I know the term is still used. Actually people use it here in Canada as well, but I'm just saying technically it's not correct in case you didn't know.

^^ It technically still means around the same thing.

To the OP: I once had an afternoon tea at this beautiful hotel and it was a fun experience. The food was amazing. We had all these little pastries and petit fours and different types of small sandwiches. I'm not much of a tea person but the tea I had was really good.

^ Thanks Liz

I was thinking about doing a similar menu to what you had: a few types of little sandwiches, mini pastries and maybe cookies, coffee and tea. I was thinking of doing some sort of punch. Also, since it's for her bday I'm going to do cupcakes decorated with candied flowers. I guess a better word for what I want to do is like a ladies "luncheon"

My friends and I used to have regular "tea parties" in high school! We would all meet for brunch on a random Sunday and bring finger sandwiches, petit fours, tartlets, scones, etc. We would try different kinds of tea each time. Man, I really need to get everyone together again!
