Default Recipe for Vietnamese Fish Sauce?

Does anyone have a recipe for the Vietnamese fish sauce they serve you at the restaurants? I know they sell the bottles of it at Asian markets, but I'm not sure what else needs to be added. I found some recipes online, but I figured I'd ask on here as well. Thanks!

Are you thinking of the sweet/sour orange-ish dipping sauce they use for egg rolls, or just the actual fish sauce?

For the actual fish sauce, you can go to any Asian supermarket. The best brand IMO (and also endorsed by renowned chef Ming Tsai) is the Three Crabs brand.

For the dipping sauce/sauce, to pour over meat and rice, or just as a salad dressing, here's one that I like.

3 tbsp. warm water
3 tbsp. sugar
3 tbsp. rice vinegar
6 tbsp. fish sauce
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
2 tsp. hot chili pepper (optional)
shredded carrots (optional)

Mix and serve.

Thank you for the recipe, bonniec I've also heard that the Three Crabs brand is the best, so that's what I bought. I ended up mixing the fish sauce with some water, sugar, lime juice and minced garlic. Added some hot sauce and chopped peanuts as well. It came out really yummy!
