i had no idea so many people liked my pig out journal hehe. here's pics i dug up from my trip in nov. '06

this is a treat i picked up at the ueno zoo. its in the shape of a panda. inside it has azuki

another one of those infamous department store basement bentos with crab and other seafood goodies

this is a gelato treat i had at the omotesando hills shopping mall. i think this cost $7. i tell you when i'm in vacation mode....cost and financial practicality go out the window

now don't throw rocks at me....this is whale. there's a whale restaurant (with ironically a really cute mascot/logo) in shibuya. during lunchtime they offer it deep fried, bbq'ed (pictured here), and sashimi style (couldn't handle the thought of eating it raw lol). it was actually pretty delicious and tender.

more gelato from takashimaya times square in shinjuku.

Wow, you tried whale? Last time I was in Japan, the locals there wanted to take me to try whale meat, and I was having a huge cultural shock. I came to understand Japanese have a very different attitude to whaling than most folks from Western countries. We are educated to see whales as intelligent and beautiful animals, and the Japanese are brought up to see whales as food.

Anyhow, I really enjoy Japanese food when I was in Tokyo last time. I ate at similar places as you, and I didn't think food was as expensive as what most people say. I enjoy looking at your pictures, reminded me how much fun I had in Tokyo...

yep definitely not as expensive. of course there's tons of expensive if you go looking for it . but what i always tell people is that you can find awesomely delicious foods from street stalls to the high end restaurants, everything is delicious.

yeah, i'm quite surprised at myself for trying it. however, my first trip the most outrageous thing i tried was sea cucumber innards. that was very salty tasting haha. i wish i had taken pictures of that meal. it was a really high class kaiseki (i think that's what its called) meal at the hotel we were staying at (park hyatt).

All the pictures of delicious (and cute!) food made me miss Japan...

Mental note to self: add on an excursion trip to Japan when I go to Taiwan in May.
