My mother & grandmother want to buy me new dishes for christmas and I am having trouble trying to figure out which pattern i should choose:

1. http://corelle.com/index.asp?pageId=93&pid=353

2. http://corelle.com/index.asp?pageId=108&pid=385

3. http://corelle.com/index.asp?pageId=93&pid=404

4. http://corelle.com/index.asp?pageId=93&pid=419

Or if anyone else knows any other good brand of dishes for everyday use. Thanks!!!

I think #2 and #3 are really cute! What are your kitchen colors?

My kitchen colors are a medium blue/lavendar color (accent wall) and a very light version of the darker color. I have white appliances and cabinets.

I prefer #3 but #4 is pretty cute too! I think the first two are a bit too "busy" for serving food on IMO.

I completely agree the first two are really cute but with food on top I think they look like too much.

I like #4, for the subtle pattern. #2 is cute too, but maybe too busy.

I know this is a boring suggestion, but I would think about getting all white dishes. I think they tend to look classier and you are far less likely to get sick of them. Plus you can change your table linens/accessories and don't have to worry about matching. I'm pretty sure I will get very simple dishes next time.

Anyway, if you want a pattern, I like the black and white one.

I agree. I think all white dishes look best and are, clearly, the most versatile.

I am with you - go all white. I bought all white corelle dishes for everyday 15 years ago and we are still using them. When one or two break (bowls tend to do that), you can ALWAYS find a white replacement. I can pair it with different linens and different decor and it shows off the food more. Remember, FOOD will be on these and most people like to see their food, not a pattern. Notice like NO restaurant has a pattern on the part of the plate you eat from.

Plus, these designs while cute now will date. If I would have gotten the green ivy ones I wanted 15 years ago, I probably would have changed them twice (at least) by now. Instead, I've changed tableclothes, placemats and so on.

But if you are set with a pattern, choose the least intrusive one.

Thanks ladies for all the suggestions! After thinking about what everyone has said, I think I am going to choose white square plates. I totally agree that the food should take center stage and the design of the plate can be too busy. I can always accessorize my table.

And now you can go and get something in a pattern SIMILAR to the plates you liked and change the table linen on a whim! Much easier to store 3-4 tablecloths than 3-4 sets of plates!
