Not sure if this is in the same category, but soul food, when done right -- OMG. There's a place by me that has the best damn waffles on the planet... maybe I'll need to take a run there tomorrow after work!!!

Ribs and corn bread. I also like fried chicken.

When I was in college, during Black History Month, the dining hall would designate one specific night to be Soul Food Night. I always looked forward to it.

They always had sweet potato pie or banana pudding for dessert. I never tried the pie. A friend of mine has always said the idea of a vegetable in a pie meant for dessert seemed wrong to him.

If you want a good seafood buffet, check out Crabby Mike's on the south end in Surfside. They have all you can eat crablegs on the buffet, very good! If you are wanting something a little more upscale, just about anywhere in Murrells Inlet is great for seafood. For sushi, the best place is Sugami. If you want good, home cooked seafood, make the drive up Hwy 9 to Horry's. It's a mom & pop place that's been around for over 50 years~ best fried seafood platter in the world! Other places that are good: Chestnut Hill, Divine Fish House, Bovine's, & Capt. Dave's.

Entertainment~ I was a performer at Dixie Stampede for 7 seasons as a rider. It's a dinner attraction with horses owned by Dolly Parton. Lots of fun if you like that kind of thing. Hard Rock Park just opened a couple of months ago. Haven't checked it out yet, since I'm pregnant & can't ride roller coasters. The Eagles & Moody Blues played a concert for the grand opening. The Carolina Opry is a good bet, and I have a cousin who performs at the Alabama Theatre "One" show.

Shopping~ Coastal Grand is the newest mall (and best). It's near the airport. Also, Tanger Outlets on the north end (the ones on Hwy 501 kind of suck). Broadway at the Beach is ok, haven't been there in a long time.

Nightlife~ Broadway at the Beach (there are several clubs to check out) Blarney Stones martini bar is there too. Studebaker's is the local redneck hangout on weekends (great if you want to watch my husband's ex-wife make an idiot of herself~ a guaranteed attraction every Saturday nite)
Other than that, I'm not up on the latest bars, since I'm an old, married, knocked-up woman now.

If you have any questions about anything, let me know! I'll give you the lowdown!

I live in Louisiana so we have a lot of Cajun and down home southern cooking here. There are just a few that I like and end up in the monthly dinner menu.
Red Beans and Rice w/ cornbread
fried chicken w/ mashed potato's and biscuits
Jambalaya w/ cornbread
Natchitoches meat pies (yum yum)
