Default Going to potluck party for the Plympics & need help

For the opening ceremonies of the summer Olympics, my friends are throwing a small party of about 8-10 guests. The party is potluck, and everyone has been asked to bring an international dish. I have been assigned with the task of dessert (which I am SO excited about!).

The only direction we have been given is to make enough for all and to avoid the U.S. (American food) to make it more interesting.

I was still thinking of baking cupcakes and sticking some American Flags on toothpicks in them- just for fun. However, I want to think of something else very creative. Any thoughts or ideas? TIA!

EDIT: Sorry that I hit the "P" key instead of the "O" in Olympics. I am not going to a Plympics party.

Flan and some Sangria!
Both are easy to make.

this is good. not international but good:

FRESH FRUIT DESSERT PIZZA
12" pizza pan
1 pkg. refrigerator sugar cookie dough
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
Several fresh or canned fruits of your choice
1/3 c. pineapple juice or milk
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/3 c. peach or apricot preserves

Thinly slice cookie dough and arrange on pizza pan, overlapping slightly, so whole pan is covered. Bake according to package directions. Cool. Whip softened cream cheese, pineapple juice or milk and powdered sugar together and spread on cookie crust. Arrange fruit in circles according to your taste. Heat preserves and drip over finished pizza. Chill.

grayxie- My BF is newly obsessed with Sangria, so I think he'd like that. Flan is a great suggestion too!

twin- the pizza sounds SO good. Maybe I can find some excuse to make it international.

I definitely vote for Sangria and then maybe make a tray of assorted cookies from different countries . . .

For example:
English Shortbread
German Chocolate Cookies
Italian Lemon Cookies

ANd you can decorate the tray with the international flags?

Chocolate croissants or French pastries? Almost every town has a french bakery.

Or if you have a costco, buy the big bucket of cream puffs (profiteroles) and make a croquembouche, which is a creme puff tower held together with carmel sauce (you can also cover with chocolate sauce)...super easy when using the pre-made cream puffs and very fun.

I tried to google a recipe for you, but they all are for home made...like I said, I just use the premade cream puffs and store bought carmel sauce (the thicker stuff in a jar)...use foil shaped into a cone to build around :)

How about a classic Scottish dessert of Cranachan?

You all rock!

I feel dumb for not knowing that fortune cookies are an American thing. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

The cream puffs are a really fun idea. I'd definitely got for premade with those too, especially since I work 50 hrs a week and don't have much time to make them before Friday.

All of this talk is making me hungry.
