Default French press

Does anyone use a French press to make coffee? Is it better than a drip one...I don't like my coffee maker and I do like strong coffee...before I buy a French press though just thought I'd ask for some opinions. Thanks!

(oh and what brand do you recommend?)

I'm not a coffee drinker, but my SO has a Bodum french press and he loves it. It makes about 2 cups of coffee at a time, it's easy to use and fast, and he says the coffee tastes great. The only downside is that you have to clean it out.

Cleaning is easy -- you can just dump out the coffee and stick all the parts in the dishwasher without any problems. I make coffee ONLY with a french press at home. It tastes GREAT this way (I like bold coffee.) I buy whole beans, grind them up myself, and make it in a french press. It takes about 5 min!

I use that style too. I find it very easy. But I'm not helpful with the brand issue.

I was told the perfect way to make coffee with it by a Starbucks barista:
boil water up to 96 Celcius, use up to 2 scoops of coffee fot the 300 ml press, let it set for 4 minutes and then ready. Just make sure that u use fresh water and coffee.

Simseema, I'm a serious coffee-holic. I use an AeroPress by Aerobie. The advantages to me are the ease of cleaning, the fact that you can press directly into your mug, and any leftovers don't continue to sit with the grounds. It's plastic and kind of chintzy looking, but it works well and makes a smooth strong cup of coffee.

I dont really drink much coffee at home, but my mother uses a french press. A lot of people recommend making coffee this way to enjoy the full flavor of it. I would recommend bodum as well, they come in a variety of sizes depending on how much coffee you want to make - Starbucks also sell them. And as someone else said you can make tea in it too!

DH and I have a French press. I love it. We don't even own a regular coffee maker. With the French press the coffee tastes a lot better.

The brand we use is Bodum. We got it a Target. Target has quite a few differnt ones ranging in price form $15 all the way up to $40.

I have a Bodum french press (bought it from Starbucks) and I love it. It makes a great cup of coffee and it's also very space saving. Just make sure you don't drink the last sip because there are sediments at the bottom.

I def recc a french press as both a fast and efficient way to brew coffee. You can also do cold press for those hot summer months. As for brands I would recc a bodum french press. They come it various sizes. You can but them at starbucks and they can recc some coffees and grind them in 1/2 and 1/4 pounds so you can try them. Have fun and enjoy.

I love French Press coffee! After going through inumerable glass presses, (they can break.....a little too easily imo) I finally splurged, and bought the Frieling 100% stainless steel large one from Williams Sonoma Online. It is beautiful to look at, and will never break....I love it.

I just bought a french press the other day! It makes an excellent cup of coffee and it is very easy to use. I love the rich bold flavour it gives. Mine says it makes 8 cups but it really only makes about 4 depending on the size of your coffee cup. Bodum is a very good brand that I would recommend

Use the same recconmend amount of coffee in your frech press as you would a hot one but use COLD FILTERED WATER! Cannot stress the important of good water. Add the water to the ground and let it soak over night. Then push down the grounds, pour it into a pitcher and do what you will with it.
