I'm a really slow eater, for some reason and not just when I'm talking a lot!

I nearly always finish last.

I have to be honest, although it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if the waitress asked me about desert, or whether she could get me anything else, it would kind of bother me if they brought the cheque before I'd finished.

I would feel under pressure to leave.

I used to work as a silver service waitress when I was a student and I was trained to wait until everyone had finished their last course/coffee and then ask them if they wanted anything else and then wait for them to ask for the cheque. If they didn't ask for a good while after finishing and it was getting late, then (and only then) we were permitted to tactfully ask if they were ready for the cheque, before bringing it to them; but I suppose everywhere's different and you shouldn't, personally, be blamed for company policy.

BTW, this is my 3,000 post!

I do try to speed up my eating if it seems like I'm being a slow-poke, but I also expect people to not scarf down their food in 10 minutes then sit around tapping their fingers waiting for me to finish. It's not too hard to keep a decent pace with one another!

Here is my sneaky trick. I try to always include at least one dish that I know one or more guests is very fond of, but I am not. That way, I am assured of something that I can effortlessly sort of drag out the process of finishing, if someone is eating more slowly than I am! (This place needs an evil grin icon)

Are you kidding? I'm a slow eater and at a place like Applebee's, that wouldn't bother me in the least. MAYBE at a nicer restaurant but honestly, even there... I'm in NYC so I expect people to be snappy. I WANT the check there when I'm ready for it.
