Default Favorite Asian Comfort Foods

I think to most Americans, including myself, the phrase "comfort food" conjures up images of mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and chocolate cake amongst other things. However, when I am feeling down and out, and the shiitake has just hit the fan one too many times, there is nothing like a bowl of hot, steamy, fishy flavored ramen soup with potstickers to get my mood going and my senses invigorated.

Quite simply, it is my favorite Asian comfort food.

I'm curious, what are your favorite Asian comfort foods? The foods you love, can never grow tired of, and just make you completely and utterly happy from the first bite on?

Please share your thoughts with me

^ That looks so good!

My go to is a bowl of Lo Mein- either veggie or roast pork. I wish I could make it at home, but I doubt it would taste right!

OMG that looks so good :) I am Chinese and Korean, but we don't really eat Chinese food. I love good old kimchi fried rice :) Sushi is really good, but none of the raw stuff!

I could eat pad Thai until the cows come home.

Also my mother makes THE BEST fried rice. Disagree if you want, but you need to taste it!

I like the rice crispy treats you find in Asian groceries stores, hmmmm

And when I'm sick, nothing beats rice porridge!

This is not really asian food but a Japanese-American thing: Any JAs out there have parents or grandparents who made them "weenie royale"? Basically it is OKAZU (Japanese stir-fry) with cut up pieces of hot dogs with onions, sometimes cabbage and egg with soy sauce mixed in. You eat it with hot sticky rice.

My asian favorites are dishes I can no longer find! I used to get them as a kid in Chicago, but I moved away and the restaurant has since closed. If anyone has had or seen what we called onion cake please let me know where to find it! It is also called onion pancake or scallion pancake, but I think that the dish may be a different variation! It's got to be very thin and not doughy....

Sorry to whomever I stole the photo from, heheh...green onion pancake (???) on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Also, cold summer noodle! It's a very spicy peanutty noodle dish! Unfortunately, you wreak for days so make sure everyone you are with indulges in it too!!

Also, panfried shrimp dumplings, tempura, eggrolls, crunchy spring rolls, MOO SHU, crispy skin, and general tsos chicken are delightful too! I love asian food.

I LOVE ramyun with egg. I would crack the egg into the soup and then after I am done with the noodles I would put rice in there. hm...maybe I will have that for dinner My favorite Asian comfort food is congee (rice porridge) with a little "Maggie Sauce" (kinda of like a soy sauce).

shrimp dumplings (har gao)
noodles in chicken broth w/stir-fried chicken (my mom makes this - soooo good!)
chicken potstickers (again, my mom makes these and they are the best)
green onion pancakes

Other than that, I don't even really like Chinese food!

I love green onion pancakes too! My mom buys them frozen at Asian supermarkets and they are sometimes available at Chinese restaurants during Dim Sum hours. Then again I live in a city with a very high Asian population so Chinese food is abundant. I like them a little less brown than that - sounds weird at first but they're sooooo good! (You know, obviously!)
