I've eaten alligator fried on a po'boy and it was really yummy. I'm in the South so what's normal here may not be normal everywhere else so I'll just list some of the things we ate on a regular basis while growing up.
Deer
Rabbit
Squirrel

I love venison! I hunt deer and everything I kill gets processed and put in the freezer. Venison is much better for you than beef. I've had buffalo steak and it was very good. I love quail and dove too~ bacon wrapped or smothered in gravy over grits.
Have always wanted to try rabbit and squirrel, but haven't had a chance to hunt them yet.
I guess living in the South gives you a different spin on what's "normal" in the food chain! Where I'm at, there are still a lot of families that supplement their food income with what they can hunt and harvest. One of the running jokes around here is that opening day of deer season is a holiday, and you can expect the entire male population to miss work and school that day. Of course, that goes for some of us girls, too! Gun season for our county opens 9/15, which is a Monday, so my pregnant butt will be somewhere hunting~ if I'm not able to climb, I'll be in a ground blind...LOL
So, to continue the "wierd" foods thing~ has anyone tried wild turkey?

I'm a west coastie, but have lived in some great places for good food variety.

Gator, Rabbit, Ox, Goat (Some of the best curry ever), quail, duck, goose, buffalo (getting more common). River-caught crawdads, full-body baby calamari that you never see in restaurants. I just missed out on the chocolate covered crickets my kids tried while we were on vacation a few months back - they told me it tasted like a kit-kat.

'Popcorn' fried gator with sweet-potato fries. Pretty tasty stuff. Though I don't quite understand what's so special about chicory coffee.

Oh, and I love fried Scrapple - which my husband describes as 'Everything that wasn't good enough to go into Spam'.

I love frog legs and crawfish but you have to suck the brains out for it to be good. I've never tried gator but wouldn't mind it. We eat alot of deer at my house too.

I've had gator when I visited my relatives in Fla, it was pretty good, chewy.

I have also had cactus, I didn't like it but my SO did, I thought it was too salty and the texture was like hard celery.

I have also had a grasshopper taco (from same restaurant as cactus, Olyema in DC) my boss told me I had to get it and it was awful, way way way toooo salty and just blah!! I got a new respect for Andrew Zimmer

My family LOVES IT! but I've never had it. We're going to the Virgin Is. and I will have to finally try it there. I heard the conch fritters are the best to try...they also say Conch stew is good.

I just can't help thinking, I'm eating a big snail...

I love chitlins! They taste like tripe, which I also love, but for some, it's an acquired taste. The smell of them cooking is atrocious!

The rest of the food was really really good!! Most everything is tapas style (there are 3 entrees but we didn't order them) and delightul. We got mini corn cakes with chorizo, a chicken tamale, and something else. The bf also got a chicken taco, which was much better than my grasshopper!! They also have some other interesting dishes with things like beef tongue and if you're a fan of guacamole they make it fresh at your table in a giant mortar and pestel (sorry don't know actual name).

Tried cow foot- did not realise until my friend told me- I thought I was eating chicken! Kinna stopped enjoying my meal after that!
My nan would always bring us pigs trotters to eat- we never did!

I have eaten a lot of stuff growing up, some that I would not touch now, for various reasons. I've had:

venison
rabbit
gator
conch
scrapple

I had an ex that ate goat meat. It stunk to high heavens and I refused to try it.
