I am trying to decide between two diff sizes for pearl studs.
The choice is between: a.) 7.0mm-8.0mm or b.) 8.0mm-9.0mm These would be for everyday wear---to work, on weekends....pretty much what I will wear most of the time. I don't want them to be too small nor too big---I'm confused! I am 34 yrs old, about 5'5'', 150 lbs, if that helps or even matters LOL. Thanks for your advice! |

It depends on a few things. Firstly, how much 'space' is there on your earlobes? Some people tend to have fleshier earlobes so earrings may appear smaller on their ears. Also, I think you'll have to take into consideration the size of your face. If your face is smallish, then the bigger pearls will appear huge.
I have 6.5-7mm pearl studs, which I bought in my 20s. But for some reason the older I get, the bigger I want my jewellery to be. I'm 35 now and now my pearls seem waaaay too small. Maybe it's failing eyesight

I agree that it definitely depends on your earlobe & face. But I think 7.5 mm is a good size for anyone.

My personal tastes in jewellery are that I have one statement item and keep everything else minimal. So I have one pair of white south sea pearl studs that are 10mm - they look big and that's how I want them to look.

Here are some pictures to help out: IMO, I wear 7-8mm every day and they look great! I still want larger pearls for evenings, but you really can't go wrong with that size. BTW- Where are you planning on buying them/how much are you going to pay? You could easily get 2 pairs of great quality pearl earrings in both sizes for under $110.

I just got home with my new pearl studs!!! I LOVE THEM!!!!
They are 8mm with a very soft pink overtone to them. They are perfect for my coloring and I feel like they light up my face. The original studs I was wearing (I found out at the jewelers) was only 6.5-7.0 mm. They looked okay, but I have a larger face (and lobes) and I just really felt like the 8mm-8.5 suits me best. I will try to upload some pics ASAP. Callire: I was going to buy from pearls of joy as you suggested in another thread, but I am in Canada. After the horrible conversion rate and shipping, I just didn't feel like it was a value. |

Here they are! They are so shiny that I can see myself with my camera in the middle of the earring!
Sorry the pics a little blurry---I don't have a high quality cell phone, but it gives you an idea about the size. |

Oh! Yay! Good for you. That's unfortunate, there are so many GREAT online retailers for pearls online. I completely agree that the 6-7mm isn't a great size for earrings (mine were a gift), but to each her own. Rose is such a great overtone, great choice! BTW- You should really consider looking at pink pearls. If you love Rose like I do, they'd probably look absolutely fantastic on you! I love mine to pieces because they look smashing against my skintone (but, be very, very careful about buying pearls from jewelry stores... most of the time I see A quality- not good at all- being sold for AAA prices!) Anyway, just a thought if you want to buy a strand!

Callire---I agree with what you are saying about jewelry stores---it's a bit of a rip off. About 6 months ago when the exchange rate for CAD $ to US $ was about the same, I would have done great to buy at pearls of joy. If things change, I think I will buy a pair of pink studs (and possibly a strand as well!).
I'm not sure is this is A quality or better. All I known is that they are WAY WAY shinier than my previous pair, not to mention larger and rosier! Isn't it cool how a new pair of pearls can make a person so happy? LOL

Crystalina- so pretty! Love the size and the slight tint of the pearls.

FYI- I wouldn't order pearls from Bluenile, while I love them for diamonds, they just don't match up pearl wise and they don't even attempt to give a rating. Maybe once things even out, you could do a massive order?

Those look lovely! careful not to get any hair products on the pearls.. they are sensitive and may lose luster
