get?
I'm considering purchasing diamond studs...and I'm not sure what to go with. I know people don't scrutinize your ears nearly as much as the ones on your finger... and you don't see earrings while you're wearing them. Sooo... .50ctw round, I color, SI1 clarity, ideal cut or ....... .75ctw princess, I color, SI2 clarity, good cut Price for either is almost the same... so i'm really debating on whether size or cut makes more of a difference to me at this point... Opinions? Smaller earrings that are possibly sparklier, or larger earrings that would still be sparkly, but maybe not as? |

I have 1cttw princess studs, don't know the rest of the specs as they were a gift. My stepmom has what look like .8 cttw round cut studs. They are SO sparkly I can't stop staring at them when she's talking. My princess studs catch the light, but they don't sparkle nonstop the way hers do. I know it's a sign that the quality is not as good, but I prefer it because they are more subtle, but still classic, beautiful diamonds, you know?

I think it really depends on which shape you like more. The 0.5 round ideal cut will probably look bigger than the .75 princess when you are wearing it.

^ I agree. I'd go with the round for the better cut and I think rounds just are sparklier!

I have both round and princess cut diamond earrings and honestly LOVE the princess cut ones... I rarely wear the rounds anymore... in fact, can't remember the last time I did.

I am partial to rounds, so I'd suggest the round pair. It really depends on which shape you prefer and can see your self enjoying more.

I would always buy the ideal cut stones. I have a pair & my decorator told me she looked out her office window to see if I had arrived & she said she saw my earring sparkle! And she's on the second floor! I just laughed at her but maybe the sun was just right. Anyway they are worth the price. Sacrifice clarity & color & always buy ideal cut.

the round should be much more sparklely than the princess cut, which to me is the most important factor.

thanks ladies! my gut was telling me that i should go ideal cut.. quality over quantity, right? LOL
I just spent the last hour stewing over the decision, bc these are actually a belated bday gift for my mommy. If it was me, i'd go for the smaller earrings, but my mom is one of those people who never buys anything really nice for themselves.... so i wanted to get her something a little more substantial. I wound up staying with round (i was having trouble picturing princesses on her ears), doubling up on the carat size (.92ctw) and keeping the ideal cut... it kinda doubled the price, but i figure she's worth it, and i can always borrow them if i wanna get fancy. I'll make sure to take modeling pics of her ears when she gets them! thanks for your help!

That's so awesome of you to get your mom such a wonderful present. I'm sure she will LOVE them (most especially because they're from you!). :)

I love both. I have a .50 set of princess cut.. that I love.
But round is much more classic form. I am torn though. since they are the same price.. and yet about 25 points more. I dont think the clarity radius will make one sparkly then the other.. because its so close. a princess is cut different.. and has a flat top.. so it may appear not as sparkly... Ooh I am no help. I would have to see them...lol I still think round is more Classic. |
