Default What would you get? Diamond studs or solitaire pendant?
Hi! Sorry this story is a little bit long. I'm turning 40 soon and my husband is asking what to get me. I've been wanting diamond solitaire earrings for a long time and told him that's what I wanted.

Then my sister told me that she wants to sell one of the two diamonds she has (a 1.50 ct solitaire engagement ring and a 1.01 ct solitaire ring). The 1.50 ring is from her ex-husband and the 1.01 ct is from her ex mother-in-law. She told me I can pick the one I want and she'll keep the other one. The 1.01ct is a nicer diamond (H&A) but the 1.50 is not bad either.

Anyway, I'm now torn. I thought I could pick one of the two and reset it into an earring and then find/buy a matching diamond. Not sure which one I should get. Also, if I get the 1.50, should I make it into a solitaire pendant instead of earrings?

I really haven't seen too many people wearing diamond solitaire pendants. Which is more classic, the pendant or stud earrings? Which of the two do you prefer? Also, is it even a good idea for me to buy the diamond from her and reset it? I know it'll be cheaper than buying retail.

Obviously, I have no idea what to do now so any opinions are greatly appreciated!

It's a hard call, I would like diamond earrings or solitaire. In this case though, I'd probably go with a solitaire pendant because it might be a bit difficult to find a matching diamond for the earrings.
Would love to see pics when you decide!

ooh, nice hard decision to have to make? i guess it depends on what ur budget is...i personally would go for the studs if $ allowed for it - either would make a great stud. i used to have a diamond solitare necklace (long long time ago and tiny) but wear my studs everyday! good luck deciding

I prefer the pendant. Always too afraid I will lose stud earrings. Actually, I have lost many....even with screw backs. Thank heavens they weren't diamond studs. I find studs are usually hidden, unless you have really short hair. At least with a pendant, it is always out in the open for everyone to drool over. LOL. When talking with someone, I don't look at their ears. I look at their face...and if a diamond is hitting my eyes, naturally my eyes drift down to the neckline. Thus, the pendant gets my vote all the way.

Go for the pendant-you can always get studs later, but you may not get this opportunity to have a nice size and quality diamond for a good deal again! And it will be kind of neat that you can design whatever setting you want, too.

Show us what you end up with!

I would go for the pendant, just because I wouldn't want to splash out the cash and spend so much time searching for a matching stone.

Plus, I don't see the point in ever wearing diamond stud earrings. I have $6 CZ earrings from NYC that I stock up on that look fantastic. When I compare them to my real diamonds, they are cut exactly the same. In every single high-end jewelry store I've been in, a SA inevitably compliments me on my "spectacular earrings"-- and these are people who are around diamond all day long.

I wear diamond studs every day and hardly ever wear my diamond pendant, so I would what choose studs. I think it's a nice idea to take one of your sister's diamonds. Maybe you can take both diamonds to a jeweler to see which diamond is easier to match? Also, I think earring diamonds don't have to be quite as high quality as ring diamonds. Good luck!

I have both and I never take my drop off. In the summer with open neck tops, etc.
it is always noticeable. In the winter I have to take it out and "display" it. Sometimes I wear my studs and other times I wear diamond hoops or something.
So I think that a solitaire drop will get more wear.

1.5 pendant on a 16 inch chain would look so sexy!
