what setting for diamond hoops?
hi, for my 29th birthday, my parents are getting me a pair of diamond hoops, and i need your help. i don't know what setting i want... i know that i want them to be about 2 inches and definately inside out... but i don't know whether they should be pave, prong, channel set... i would love some suggestions and pics if you have...

Depends on the look you want. I have 1 1/2" prong set inside out. Diamonds are very sizeable and flashy. See attachment.
I also have 3" micropave hoops that are big but casual. Very subtle. (sorry, no picture) Japster made some really unique 2" hoops with baguettes end to end with a row on either side of micropave diamonds. Totally dreamy. |

thanks for the pic. i definately want something a bit flashier for nighttime. during the day i wear studs, 1.3 ctw per ear...

those 2nd ones are like the ones I'm wanting. What's the carat weight on those?
I'd LOVE some micropave ones as well . . . and I better be posting some kind of diamond hoops before the end of this year if DH kows what good for him!  LOL!

GrysonGirl, it's a tough item to advise on because there are so many great choices out there. LOL. I would agree that inside-out is the way to go. You might want to consider shape, does oval or round suit you better? I've done everything from 8ct prong sets, to 5ct pave, to multi-rows with different cuts (like the ones of mine Lisa posted above).
Here are som different ideas Pave (these can get very heavy), multi color gold pave    You can also get fun with Natural fancy colored diamonds, I've made Pink Diamond Hoops and even use rare colors like these green diamonds: And a smaller size.....

Japster, yours are amazing! i think i want round... i would love to find a place that has a bunch of different ones that i can try on... my boyfriend doesn't know where i can go, he thinks i just need to call his mom's diamond guy and get something made... he obviously doesn't understand how many diff choices there are and i can't just call the guy and have him make me a pair of hoops... do you guys know anywhere in Manhattan i could go that has a variety in store?
vancleef fan, i really like the 1st and 4th pics... i know my father is a fan of the channel setting... i didn't realize this would be so difficult, the majority of my jewelry is from bvlgari, it's so much easier to just go into a store and point to what you want... japster, i would love to see a pic of the ones with the diff cuts if you have... |

How horrible that I don't know the stats of my own jewelry? I just pulled one off my ear. Each diamond is approx 4mm across, and there are 19 on each earring. Maybe Japster can do a quick approximation? She's our resident expert! I just acquire!!

yes, those Lisa! Does 3 carats each sound about right?
I stopped into my favorite jewelry store and fondled some. . . I told my SA to remember I wanted a small pair of pave hoops and a larger pair of hoops set more like yours. The ones I held were about 3 crts each if I remember correctly. PURR-TEE!
