Most people find sentimental value with their engaement rings, whether its the teeny tiniest diamond, a carat or more. For some reason, I wish to upgrade mine eventually when DH and I have the funds. He thinks its ok and dreams of buying me a bigger stone. I have a 1.2 carat ring but wish to upgrade to a 2 carat diamond ring. Thoughts?

We upgraded my original diamond in June. I never thought I'd want to, but the more I became interested in jewelry I wanted a bigger, clearer diamond. It was actually my husband's idea.
I took my original diamond to a jeweler's to have made into a pendant and I added eight pink sapphires to the design. |

My husband and I were so disappointed, but I tried to like it. I wore it for a couple of weeks and then I just had to have it re-made. It's been almost a month now so I'm hoping the jeweler calls me soon. I'm anxious to have it back as it was my original engagement ring. |

I have already upgraded in size, and have thought about changing the center stone to a different shape as well.
My husband & I got engaged when we found out I was unexpectedly pregnant after a couple of years together, and got married just a few weeks later. Since we didn't really have time to shop around for rings, we just got what they had that we liked the day he took me ring shopping, the day after I announced I was pregnant! He didn't mind when I upgraded, because we really consider our wedding bands to be more sentimental. Since I picked the engagement ring on my own, I see it more as jewelry that he finances Plus, he knows that I love jewelry, so he just wants me to be happy with what I'm wearing on my hand. Some guys may be uncomfortable with it, though, if they spent a lot of time researching and designing the ring themselves, and planned a special proposal. I think it depends entirely on your guy ... |

hubby wasn't keen on upgrading rings till he realized that he would probably have to pay for another one that's gonna be alot more expensive.
we have a 2.5 lucida from tiffany and they allow one time upgrade there so we will probably end up doing it in a few years. |

Yes! I turned my first engagement ring diamond into a sweet *little* bezel pendant.

DH and I upgraded mine for our tenth anniversary -- that made it sentimental for me. My original center stone was put into a solitaire pendant which I get many compliments on.

My husband and I have talked about it. I'm too sentimental I think. My ring is 1.5 carats. We got engaged 7 years ago, so for that time, it was a big sacrifice for him and a huge diamond in my eyes. Now that we are more established and DH has a great job, we could definitely upgrade. I just don't think I can...just yet. lol Maybe for our 10 year anniversary or something, but right now, I'm more than happy. =o)-

DH has said we will upgrade but we'll be buying the new one outright, not trading my current one in.

I never thought I'd do it either. . . but people change! LOL!
We'll be upgrading at our 10 year mark. My center stone is about 1.25 as well and I think that size is fantastic for a solitaire pendant

I don't plan to ever upgrade mine. I love it, and it is the perfect size for me, as well as being excellent quality.

Yes but not necessarily by choice, my center stone chipped a few months after we were married and insurance replaced it. After three years I upgraded the setting. It was originally a 1.32 oval with two small baguettes on the sides. I had the larger replacement diamond reset with a pear on each side.
My hubby took the old baguettes and had them reset with pearl drops one year for a Christmas present. I am not sure if I would have upgraded if I hadn't chipped the first diamond but once I started changing out stones... well you know how that goes |
