Default Two Questions for Tiffany collectors
1) Why does their sterling silver scratch so easily and can it be buffed out? I bought the peace charm a couple weeks ago to wear on a longer silver chain. I've only worn it a few times and it is SO scratched. Can they buff this out?

2) This weekend I bought some new things and one of them was the MOM heart padlock charm. I plan on wearing it on the oval link bracelet. Does this come undone often and fall off? If so, is there something that can be done to insure it stays on.

Sterling silver, as I understand it, is a fairly soft metal so it is prone to surface scratching. Getting it polished at Tiffany's will make a huge difference. I'm not sure what they do, but they do manage to buff out scratches and your item comes back looking brand new.

^^ same experience here. my silver pieces are scratched but having tiffany's professionally clean them makes them look fabulous! i've used home cleaners/clothes but nothing compares to their cleaning in my experience. they make it super shiny and like new! but they cannot make the scratches completely go away.

i remember way back when tiffany's did NOT charge for cleaning. i just had to wait a few moments and they were back to me that day, even with in a 1/2 hr!

to my understanding, they "DO NOT" charge for cleaning but only for buffing and repolishing. when they clean, they just put it in the sonic like cleaner soaking thing.

when my hubby was still "BF" he got me a T&co sterling/18k bangle & it was the 1st "expensive" piece of jewelery i ever had.

i was sooo upset when i got my first scratch.

now... i've had it for 4 years and i wear it everyday. it's got so many scratches, i just don't see them anymore. i have a great patina on it & it doesn't tarnish at all. i like it better now than when it was shiny & scratch-free.

Tiffany silver doesn't scratch any more than any other silver does. Jewelry will scratch if you use it.....just like a car, or a phone, or anything else you might buy. If you want jewelry that doesn't scratch then titanium is a nice option....of course it isn't as pretty as silver is. You can use super glue to ensure your charm doesn't open up on its own or you can have Tiffany solder it shut for you.

There is no way to avoid scratches on silver or gold for that matter. They just show up more on silver. Tiffany will polish it for you sometimes for a small charge, sometimes not. But I will say, they do an amazing job, and charge much less than Cartier does...

I guess I'll just have to take it in to be buffed. It just confuses me on how it can already be so scratched when its on a chain around my neck and I've only worn i a couple times. Oh well.

As for the lock, super glue will work and won't ruin it? Has anybody tried this?
