Default the layered look...
it seems the most fun modern way to wear jewellery is to layer it all on but i cant quite seem to get the hang of this. maybe bc my pieces just dont jive together... most of my pendants are on 16 inch chains and a lot of my bracelets have similar links but seem to look cheap when i pile them on.

any layering tips?

I have a hard looking effortlessly chic too

I notice when others can do it and I wish I could!
I think it's about not over-thinking it.

. . . easier said than done.

I think for necklaces it helps if they are a little longer. I wear my key on an 18" chain and sometimes layer it with another pendant on a 20" chain, and *I think* it looks nice.

For bracelets I have layered a chain-type bracelet along with smoother bangles (one or a few) and I also think that the contrasting smooth bangle looks nice.

I have noticed, from watching the disney channel with my daughter, that the 'tween stars like hannah montana seem to favor wearing a stack just one wrist and keeping the other wrist bare. LOL not that they are my style gurus, just that seems to keep the look more fun and not *too much*

I am anxiosly awaiting other ideas on this topic, b/c I am trying to get this look to work too.

I agree with both Swanky in that the key is to not ove rthink it. I also agree with PinkKitty in that one of the key ideas would be to go with longer. For example, today I am wearing an 18 inch ball chain with a 32 inch chain, both with different key pendants.

I sometimes layer long tahitian pearls with a long chain. That's another idea. Mix metals with pearls. I don't really layer bracelets because it's too difficult for me to work.

I'll mix coral strands with pearls. Or short pearls with long pearls. Or two short delicate chains with one longer chain. That seems to be balanced and works out ok.

I can't layer too much because I'm short and it just looks too out of proportion on me...KWIM?

Part of it is not making sure that each piece can be seen. Usually I will put on a short necklace and a longer necklace, but that is hardly layering in the sense of creating the care-free boho vibe. We need to not be concerned if each pendant will show, and we have to realize that several necklaces around the same length together will create that look instead of the neatly stacked one shorter necklace and one longer that I tend to want to do. I have a much easier time with bracelets, as I am comfortable wearing them. As long as the metals don't clash too badly, I love wearing multiples in different styles and textures.

I wear layered necklaces all the time. It helps to wear several simple, beautiful designs to keep the look fresh.

Today I am wearing one shorter gold necklace with a simple circle pendent with my initial and a diamond, it has little gold beads that cluster. It's called a "love letter necklace."

Then I am wearing a white gold and diamond necklace by Jamie Wolf. It's similar to a DBTY necklace, but there are tiny gold flowers that are double sided with diamonds. It's a similar length as the love letters necklace I am wearing.

Finally, I have one long gold charm necklace with "good luck" charms from around the world, including a couple of skulls. It's by a designer named Nicole Schumann and it is one of my favorite pieces ever.

I've also been stacking/clustering rings on one hand: diamond eternity band, a small diamond solitaire (.3 carat) and an aquamarine Alexis Bittar ring. I love the look!!!

I'm not the best with posting pictures on the PF, but if you click on my blog in my link I have a recent picture where I layered those three necklaces and paired them with a grey t-shirt dress and black leggings. I also wore my orange graffiti speedy with that outfit that night!

I know in another thread, you requested modeling shots of the bag. I'm willing to email you a picture from my iPhone if you PM me your email. HTH!

I always try to layer necklaces but somehow end up with a twisted, tangled mess

There is an awesome photo of two layered key necklaces on www.luxury-insider.com.
Go to search and type in tiffany and co on their website.

I wear my 17 inch 7ct diamond tennis necklace as my staple. It's small enough for layering. Layer another 18/20 inch small diamond pendant (small heart, initial, key or solitaire work well), pearls, diamonds-by-the-yard...anything not too over the top, works. If the tennis necklace is small enough, just adds enough sparkle to work off of. I also have 4 2ct diamond bangles...2 wt gold, 2 yellow gold. Any ring, wt or yellow gold, goes well. My necklace and bangles have been good investments, that I have worn for years and got a lot of different looks out of. Wish I could figure out how to post pics...always too big to post.

I like pearls and chains... the dual whammy.
