I've sold very pretty lustrous smaller baroque Tahitian strands (strung with 14k clasp) for as little as $200-250. They can be really affordable in baroque or circle shapes. |

I thought it might be neat to post some interesting pearl designs since many people often picture the prim 'farty' looking designs of old.
These are some I found in trade magazines or in ads.... This concept is called 'adorned' pearls and are done by a lot of jewelers but these particular ones are by Erica Courtney. More adorned pearls Outer necklace is a neat mixture of fancy colored Tahitians and metal and the middle necklace is another 'adorned' style pendant. An Octopus Ring with a Baroque Pearl by Assael The color is off on this pic, but this is a ring that a jeweler apparently designed with an ocean theme... hence the blue pave gemstones. And I think the necklace is by Erica Courtney. |

Does adorning the pearls hurt the integrity?

Thanks E. I don't wear whites too often because white really is not my color, but I reach for these every time I feel white pearls are appropriate. I probably have 6 strands of different whites, but I prefer the Freshadamas. I have a couple of fabulous pictures of my Freshadama pearls on top of a strand of 5K Mikimotos. I'll dig it up... I realize FW to Akoya is apples to oranges, but the photo really shows how a great strand of freshwater can be a nice alternative to high priced akoyas.

I just came looking for the other pearl thread so I could beg for help, so I'll ask here instead. I'm looking for general opinions from you knowledgeable ladies.
I am looking to buy a single-strand classic pearl bracelet for myself. I don't have the ability to purchase a very expensive piece, but I would like a simple, classic strand with decent quality. Right now, I am considering these two options: 6.0 - 7.0mm White Freshwater AAA Quality $53- For these freshwaters, I can afford to purchase the higher quality roundness option (AAA vs AA+), and this slightly larger pearl size. If I knew these freshwaters would be as attractive as the strand pictured above in the thread, I would be 100% happy with them. 6.0-6.5 mm White Akoya Pearl Bracelet $85 - In the Akoyas, I can afford a smaller pearl size, but this is okay with me as I have a very small wrist. I would buy the AA+ quality as opposed to the AAA. I am leaning toward the freshwaters, simply because I do not think I am enough of a pearl expert to be unhappy with the less expensive option, and I do not want to spend more than I have to. On the other hand, I am wondering if there is a dramatic difference in quality between the Akoyas and the freshwaters, and whether the relatively small price difference would be justified by a considerably higher quality pearl. What do you ladies think? I appreciate any help! |

That golden South Seas necklace is gorgeous. I could only imagine how those pearls would feel around the neck.
And because I'm a Cancer, those crabby pieces are too cute. Thanks for all the pearl eye candy. It makes me love pearls even more.
