I had a ring through the side of my lip when I was 15, so I'm not against piercings and tattoos, but ear gauging has never appealed to me. I do like the bling plugs though.

Dear hell_lo_kitty
Thank you so much for the photos. You really went to some trouble. Very much appreciated. I now have a really good idea of the jewellery available for stretched lobes and how to wear them. Your first piercing is certainly bigger than I expected - I was thinking more like the second hole you have .... (not as out there I know - I really do like my real bling - even though it is currently very limited). It strikes me that you can almost never not wear any earrings... Is this difficult sometimes? Can I also ask what else you have pierced .... I have a tragus, my navel and a butterfly on hip ... Ciao and thanks again, Lisian x |

The site I liked to has LOTS of options for smaller holes. My second hole is a 4ga. You asked about not wearing earings. It doesn't bother me, I've been wearing earings since I was 7 years old. I never take off my jewelry, except to change it. I always have my stuff on, including earings, necklace(s), rings, and bracelets. I even shower and sleep in my jewelry. So it doesn't bother me not being about to go without earings. I would feel naked without my jewelry!!! ![]() ![]() I also have my tongue @ 12ga and my spetum @ 10-8ga. And my back is pretty much covered by a biomechanical spinal column tattoo and I have a star on my right shoulder.

When you stretch your earlobes its a personal choice
-you know people will stare. -you know people will ask questions. -you know people will criticize. What those people don't understand is the fact that stretching your ears takes a lot. It takes dedication, persistence, and patience. Don't look down on us because we have bigger holes in our ears then you do. You should respect us for the effort we've put into doing something for OURSELVES. The people who do it whether or not its a trend know what they are getting into, they know what will happen. There is no need to act disgusted or sick at our appearance. We aren't showing our distaste at your big nose or bushy eyebrows. It's just another feature we added. No big deal. Get over yourselves. |

Interesting views here. One thing though if you work in a professional or semi-professional environment and think that people aren't talking about it, or don't judge you because of it, you're probably (like 99.9%) wrong. I can't tell you how many times people have commented on tattos and piercings in my presence because they don't know I have a tattoo! It will affect your job/promotion/everything chances. Should it, no, does it, yes. Does it look cool, sometimes, lol.

i don't get the desire to stretch them. i actually like stud earrings and to keep my hole tiny. i don't wear hoops or danglies much, for that reason.
i don't think the large holes look that bad with a stud in there, however the eyelet makes me shudder. |

I have a very battered illustrated book from 1978 called 'Fashion and Anti-Fashion : an anthropology of clothing and adornment'. From what I've gleaned (and it is pretty darn sketchy) ,this kind of thing is to do with social identification, but it has sweet fa to do with social identification in most of the western (or eastern) world. I therefore can only conclude that it is a fad and is therefore only being done as being a so very different kind of thing. How extremely radical and rebellious
. I'd start saving for the essential remedial surgery asap quite frankly... |
