Unhappy scratches on love bangle-very sad
It was bound to happen. I am not in mood to go through over 500 replies on chat thread. So for those of you with this bracelet, is it recommended to polish and what have you done about the scratches? I know a few here just accept them. Do they all blend in after time? I'm a little down cause I've tried to be so careful. But it is impossible to live like that. It is on my right wrist and I'm right-handed. Is it best to never polish, polish once a year or every few months? I anxiously await all replies. Again this is for the WG bangle (not cuff).

Chanel will polish it for you, and it will look brand new. When I bought my bracelet, they told me they would give me one complimentary polishing. I haven't taken them up on it yet,but I know people that have.

I think you mean Cartier. How long have you had your bracelet - tillie46?

Sorry, I did mean Cartier. Next month I will have had it a year. It has a lot of hairline scratches on it, but it doesn't bother me, and I don't think it detracts from the beauty of the bracelet.........that's why I haven't brought it back to Cartier to polish, yet.

At first, it bugged me but now I don't mind the scratches. It adds character.

My SA does not recommend the bangle to be polished more than 3 times. She mentioned they have to remove quite a fair bit of the gold if the scratches are deep ones. The frequent polishing will affect the look of the screw prints too.

I have learned to live with the scratches on mine

I think the scratches are going to be a given. My Trinity ring has numerous scratches, but it doesn't affect the loveliness of it.
Just try to enjoy your pretty new bangle!

Polishing should be done like once in 3 to 5 years when the scratches are all over the surface. Yes the polishing takes some gold away but the amount is not significant, prolly around 0.3 g each time for normal use (as long as you don't slam the bracelet to the floor). I emailed Cartier once and they told me that the maximum number is 8 but if you want to have it polished you may try any other jeweler outside Cartier who can do better job for cheap.

The other alternative is to dip it in rhodium. Extra rhodium layer will protect the gold beneath it and give a super shiny look. It looks quite experimental for me (I am not sure if gold-palladium alloy in the bracelet should be plated with rhodium) but there are people who discussed this on another thread who said it is possible.

Uh... I forgot one thing. That rhodium dipping only works for white gold. I don't know if your bracelet is wg or not. Sorry.

I guess I'll try to stretch it out to once every other year.

My bracelet is WG but I am not going to do the rhodium dip.

I went for a body scrub last week, and the spa attendant scrubbed my love bracelet so hard with the loofah that it got badly scratched. Prior to this my bracelet looked pretty decent. I love my jewelry to look fresh and beautiful, so I am definitely going to get it polished, whether it takes away the gold or not. At the end of the day, seeing it look pretty on me is more important than small amounts of gold being depleted during polishing.

How awful about the attendant. I would have cringed. Sorry if I asked before but which bangle do you have and how long has it been on? I love my bracelet so much. It is the first item that I ever purchased and wore out of the store. It has been on for 22 consecutive days! On the top, next to one of the screw design are 2 scratches that look like smudges. They are really irritating me but they are not smudges cause they don't come off. From a distance, you really can't see them. Are you having Cartier polish your bracelet?

Oops - made a mistake. My bracelet has only been on for 14 days.
