I've recently become obsessed with Devon Page Mccleary- does anyone have any of her pieces? They are pretty spendy and I'm wondering if they are worth the money. I've never seen them in person- just admired them online- so pretty!

A BAL-enced Life!
Yes, I have quite a few of Devon's pieces ... for instance, the "pounded" Diamond bangle (here's a link to a picture of it - http://www.twistonline.com/ThinDiamo...3%A9Bangle2841), the same earrings, a Diamond Cross & Diamond "bead" Rosary Necklace, etc. I was lucky enough to pick up her pieces when they were a lot less expensive than they are now. Besides Barneys NY, there are a number of stores that carry her work:

--> Twist (http://www.twistonline.com)
--> Bluebee (http://www.bluebeeonline.com)
--> Rock Candy Fine Jewelry (http://www.rockcandyfinejewelry.com)
--> En Avance (http://www.enavance.com)
--> By George, Austin TX (http://www.bygeorgeaustin.com)
--> Louis Boston

Sadly, as her popularity with the celeb crowd grew, so did the prices. Subsequently, I've decided that I'm not going to spend that much money on her pieces (especially if they are fabricated in 14k!!!). Besides, now that I'm designing my own stuff and having it made in India, I can get more bling for my buck !!!

thank you so much for the info! those bracelets are absolutely beautiful! you are soooooo lucky to have picked up her pieces before the prices went so crazy! Next time I get to Barneys I'll have to see if I can find anything in stock so I check it out first hand. I'm afraid that the crazy prices make me want it all the more (I'm so easily manipulated! If it's expensive it must be the most amazing jewelery in the world, right?! ha! Such foolish logic!). Well, it's always fun to have something to covet and stalk! Bluebee had a 40% off sale before the holiday but the only thing they had available were 2 bracelets that were well over $6000. even with 40% off that's way over my budget. Guess i'll have to keep dreaming!

While I know my jewelry is expensive it certainly isn't because I was influenced by "celebrity fame and fortune." It just so happened that my taste for cognac diamonds and the price of gold just got away from me. I however,
still do many inexpensive pieces. I simply began making one of a kind pieces
and so the costs went up. It wasn't greed, I must say and I firmly believe that anyone can make a great bracelet with their own energy in it with some elastic, beads and little charm that means something to you.

So start beading and enjoy the fact that there is creativity in all of us.

Sincerely,
Devon Page McCleary

p.s.
BlueBee hasn't carried my line for years and the ridiculous prices for the bracelets on their website. . . Completely ridiculous as they were gifts to the owners.

I think that it's amazingly sincere of you to explain the reasoning of your prices and the facts with quality and price explanations, it shows that your proud of your work and willing to stand by it! I will keep your designs in mind for for the future because I am more willing to buy from someone who is passionate about their work and encourages that in others.
keep up the amazing work all of us on TPF support unique and quality work
hope to see you around the jewelry box!

wow! what a thrill to get a reply back from the actual designer! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my post! I'm def. even more excited to see your work in person now that I know what a sweetie you are! As candice said, it's much more compelling to buy work from someone that you know "is passionate about their work and encourages that in others." In the meantime, I'm going to continue to enjoy your work - I have pictures of your bracelets as my screensaver!

I have found a fantastic line that is similar to Devon Page McCleary, yet a fraction of the cost. It's called Royal Buddhas. I have seen it at many stores in Los Angeles and LOVE their bracelets!!!! They have a website, but I had to call an order by phone. Bracelets that DPM sell for $750 are only $60 from RB and they look identical. I saw their facebook page and i think they must have 2 lines becuase another was listed as ROYAL QUINN. different styles. it appears that line is more expensive, but beatiful.

So great to actually hear from the designer herself! It's totally understandable that she would have to raise the prices because gold prices are insane! Glad that we could get her side of the story and she does have some amazing pieces!

I have some very early pieces of hers. Unfortunately it seems that she was very ill and passed away at 62.
