There's a ring I've been looking at in a local jewelry shop, and it's gorgeous. But it's designer, and honestly, I think it's a bit overpriced. I don't want to insult the shopkeeper/owner, as it's a nice place, and I like peeking in there every now and again, but I would like to negotiate a lower price. Granted, it's cheaper in his shop than online, but it could be worth finding out if he is willing to go lower.
I don't look like his usual clientele, but I'm hoping that won't make a difference. I've done business with him before, on very small items (repairs, etc.). My mother went to him as well, but I doubt if they remember her. I've never done this, and I don't want to be impolite, especially given how it could be perceived. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. |

We never buy jewelry at tag price. Whatever the price is, knock 20% off {or whatever} in your head and ask "could you take $xxx instead?"

With the economy bad you can name your own price, i bet they rather sell then have it sitting there. I normally do my research on a piece before offering though. i take into consideration gold weight and stone value at wholesale and x 2 for design.
if they are asking 500. i would offer 300 and they might just meet at 400. |
