Default Max single ct and tcw for everday rings?
I'm currently idly looking at right hand rings and I've seen two I like... one is a 4.5tcw eternity band style that I'd idealy get made with emeralds (pic attached). The other is what I'm suspecting is a fairly stupidly big just-over-20-ct garnet solitair set with diamonds.

My choices aside (even as I'm typing this I'm thinking the 4.5tcw is better, although I'm also liking some pave styles too), what do you think is the max total carat weight (tcw) and solitaire weight (ct) that you can comfortably wear on a daily basis without looking like you're being flashy or you bought the bauble on your finger from Accessorize?

I am completely casual, sitting her in gym clothes typing w/ a 3.67 soliatire on a finger.
I think it's completely a persoal choice. I don't think mine is too big to wear daily, I wear it everyday w/ everything.
If I had to answer, I'd say anything larger than 5 or 6 carats - total or soliatire is too much for everyday all day wear.

I second the notion that it's a personal choice, and factors such as lifestyle, the places you frequent and occupation comes into play.

I cannot remember which Magazine I have read this from, but in an interview years ago, Donatella Versace once mentioned she doesn't leave her house without wearing at least 10 carats worth of diamonds altogether.
That seemed soooo much to me then, but compared to some of the celebrities/WAGs/Socialites now (and even some of the nice ladies out shopping that I come across in 'fancy' Malls nowadays), 10 carats worth of jewellery just seems so.....normal.

So I'd say whatever that makes you feel most comfortable (and pretty!) when you put it on, will be the most suitable!

I myself will probably go for the flashier, stupidly-big 20+Ct Garnet because RHR are supposed to be "fun" IMO....But that's just me.

I don't know about tcw because I've never really worn or tried on substantial eternity rings.

For solitaire or solitaire + accent side stones (as opposed to eternity side stones) it sorta depends on the cut. In an asscher or cushion, 4-5ct would be my max for everyday, and in a round probably 3.5-4ct. Rounds just have such a presence that I'd probably be self conscious with more!

Oh, what a problem to have

I've been going through a similar questioning process myself. I'd like to get a five stone diamond wedding band to replace my basic one I got 28 years ago. The style is like an eternity ring, but the diamonds are only along the top arc of the band.

Anyway, my e-ring is 2.17 carats and I thought I wanted my new wedding band to be 2 tcw. But when we went shopping last weekend I tried on several options and now I'm thinking that 1.5 tcw would be best for me.

It really depends on your lifestyle and comfort level, as accesorize me has said. My tolerance for rings is much lower than most, so I can't really voice any personal guidelines. That band ring would be really pretty w/ emeralds and diamonds. I love band rings- they are my favorite. Emeralds are one of my fave stones too!

I think that it is a personal thing...I have never worn anything large in the way of jewelry, so I am not really sure how comfortable or uncomfortable I would be in relation to size. I certainly would not turn down bigger, but I am quite happy with what I have (1.05 ctw three stone and a .62 solitaire e-ring).

I don't think there is a "max" ct for everyday rings. I've seen some obscenely large rings worn on a daily basis (all real) and I think they look great. All that matters, in my opinion, is that you love it and it works with your lifestyle and wardrobe.

Quite frankly it's really up to the individual. As far as with engagement rings/solitaires....I have a customer that wears her 6.32 emerald cut every day, yet another client that won't go bigger than a .75ct brilliant cut.

Personally, I have only found a few eternity bands comfortable for myself. But I made an 8ctw eternity band with emerald cuts (About 18 total) for someone that finds it very comfortable and wearable.
