I looked at some Majorica pearls today and they are beautiful! Do you think it's worth the price though since they aren't real? They are full of luster and better than any other costume pearls I've seen. Does the luster wear off or does it last forever if you take care of them? Is Majorica considered good quality for costume jewelry?

I own one of the single pendants on a silver chain. It's definately pretty and I've looked at the strands. I've had the pendant for about a year and a half and I haven't noticed any signs of wear and tear. I haven't done anything special with it either (I don't wipe it down, etc.).
The strands do seem a bit pricey, but other fine costume jewelry easily reaches that price point, so it depends on what you're willing to spend. I do agree that the jewelry is gorgeous. They offer a 10 year warranty with every piece with a free replacement of any pearls that show defect or deterioration not due to improper use. http://www.majorica.com/index.php |

Imho: Depends on the piece of jewelry. If you're paying for this strand, you could easily get AAA freshwaters or AA+ akoyas for the price that they want for replica. You could definitely get gem-quality authentic pearl studs for the price of their earrings. If you're looking at more than 10mm or South Sea/Golden South Sea/Tahitian replicas, they could be worth it. $250 is a lot better than $1200 if you don't want an expensive strand.

Majorica pearls have a very distinct red and green orient (distinct coloration). Pretty costume jewelry, but experienced pearl folks will be able to tell them apart from the real deal a mile away.
OK, that being said... they are lovely, but I would suggest investing in gorgeous FW or Akoya. |

hmm
I have both mikimoto and majorica alike. Majorica can with out a doubt compete, perhaps not with the best of mikimoto but what can? They are not real, but extremely good fakes. Yes you can go to Pearl Paradise and buy something for 250, yes it will be real and a good value. But will it look as good as a Majorica strand? probably. I have AAA from Pearl Paradise and majorica is prettier, they're excellent fakes. In my personal opinion, Majorica doesn't look fake at all. Just my two cents |

Majorica is a great product at a not-so-great price. However, they appear allllll over the place discounted, on sale, and clearanced. So if you want some, just wait for a dept. store or online vendor to clearance some.
Side note: I always thought pearls were one of those things that people did not appreciate or understand. Until I got Jan228 a strand of Mikimoto, and EVERYONE stops her to admire her glowing pearls. It's silly. I have never seen something get so much attention. I could be dipped in gold, encrusted in flawless diamonds, and wheel'd around on a dolly, and still they would notice two things: Her Mikimoto pearls, and her freakin' $75 Fossil. I kid you not. We go to high end stores that sell $1mm+ pieces of jewelry and they admire her FOSSIL. Not her Corum, or my Breitling, or my Panerai's... Nada. Just her pearls and her Fossil. I don't get it, LOL. I guess the moral of the story is: Pretty is pretty. Whether they are real, fake, high end or low end, etc... Good luck with your decision, and wear whatever you get with pride and in good health!

I got a pair of majorica studs when I visited the factory while on a cruise several years back. They are really prett and I ended up wearing them on my wedding day because I was able to get the color that is very similar to my vintage akoya necklace from my great grandmother. They are REALLY creamy and I had been having a hard time finding a match. Anyway, they majoricas fit the bill! I DO prefer real pearls, however, and think in general majoricas are overpriced for faux jewelry.

Majorica's are good...they are overpriced but I own a pair of earrings that I wear for every day use and work, I wear them every week once or twice and I've had them for almost a year and still look new....I like them but I'd get them on clearance

They are pretty but expensive for costume jewelry.

Wired1, totally agree with you!!!! Pretty is pretty, you can't account for impressions!
Missling, my advice is to sync your appreciation and acceptance of Maj's quality and price point with your desire to own the piece and you will be happy with the purchase!(As well as the product!) |
