Default Mabe Peals
Hello,

I found a ring from Macy's instore that I really like. However, it is a mabe pearl ring. The cost "on sale" is $153.00. I want to know what you all think of mabe pearls and is that a decent price for a mabe pearl ring that is set in white 14k gold with very small diamonds surrounding. Thanks so much for your opinion.

This particular ring is not online. I wish I had a link to it so that you could give me your opinion on it. Since I don't have a link, can you tell me what you think about mabe pearls and are they worth the money spent! Callire you are good at pearls, so you opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Mabe pearls can be gorgeous! (In general with pearls) I think it all depends on the quality I've seen some disgusting pearls before... one of my teachers had this long 20" strand of freshwater rice pearls with almost no luster and they looked like little teeth *shudders*

Brick and mortar jewelry stores and dept stores normally don't have good pearls (some of them are simply horrible and overpriced), but there are some exceptions. I'd try to go online and look for different mabe pearl rings to see if you can find something for a better price. It's hard to tell if it's a value unless you can determine the quality of the pearl. It seems okay if the gold is fairly substantial (gold prices are ridiculous), and the pearl has good luster/orient. See if you can check it out in natural sunlight- that's the easiest way to feel out the quality. I think $100-$150 is pretty reasonable for a mabe pearl You also get the benefit of seeing it in person.

These though, are ridiculously overpriced. All of them. (except the ones on sale for >$150.. and the original retail price on those were just as bad)

pearlparadise is always on my top rec's Thepearloutlet.com also has some inexpensive fw pearl rings too. Kojimapearl.com also has some breathtaking jewelry, but it's usually more than $150. I can't think of any places with a mabe pearl ring, so if you really love the macys one, you might consider getting it!
