Soo, was hoping to get some feedback on TPF since I know some of you on here know lots about diamonds and gemstones in general...me, on the other hand, unfortunately is still learning and am in the beginning stages of my jewelry education :)

I was looking at a 1.5-1.75 ct tw diamond studs and just started doing my hw...

I was at DeBeers and they showed me a 1.4 ct tw pair that looked great and I honestly couldnt tell the difference between the F VVS, G VS, or the H SI pairs...I know...must be blind but I have heard that with earrings it doesnt have to be as perfect as it would be for your finger...and since all 3 of those honestly looked so similar to me, I literally sat there and couldnt tell the difference even btw the F VVS and the H SI pair!!!

Anyhow, the H SI pair 1.4 ct tw is 6500 USD...is that a pretty fair price?

I tried on 2 ct tw but they honestly looked similar to the 1.4 ct tw and for the same specs, the 2 ct tw pair was ALOT more...

I have overall small ears/lobes which is why anything over 2 cts tw would also look too big on me....

Any feedback would be great, if anyone has pics of theirs on their ears, specs and general pricing info for their size/color/clarity...

PS: I feel safer buying from a store where I can see it like Tiffanys, DeBeers or a jewelers etc :)

I would go to a reputable local jeweler since you want to see them first in person and if you don't want to pay premium for a "designer name" that to be honest, no one will ever see stamped on a teeny spot on a stud.

Visually, you really shouldn't be able to see a big difference, or any difference at all in a lot of cases between a F VVS and an H SI, ESPECIALLY in your ears.
For this reason, most of us will always choose to go slightly bigger and a slightly higher color such as an H or an I even. My solitaire on my finger is an I and no one would ever be able to tell {there's a ton of pics of it around here somewhere}

The major thing to remember, even in your ears is CUT is KING.

I'd specifically try to find a pair that is H-I in color and SI1 in clarity but ideal or excellent cut. Cut is what will give you sparkle, even in an I SI1 pair of studs.

There's several great threads on this that I'm pretty sure have photos of studs.

I'll attach what I have left on my PC for you. . .

Sounds like you already know the answer! That is a pretty good price, a similiar pair from Tiffany's would cost at least $10,000. I personally like 2.0ct because it is a nice even number but if you have small earlobes that size will look great on you.

P.S. Most people can't see the small differences in color and clarity with the naked eye. It's just more peace-of-mind to know you have a near perfect stone!

thanks everyone for your feedback...yes i am definitely leaning towards the G/H color and VS/SI clarity since I really couldnt tell and even the DeBeers person had to look with his loop to make sure which stud was the F VVS and which was the H SI!!!

i will have to check on the cut...which is best, ideal or excellent? and how many grading levels are there for cut?

ill definitely have to shop around some more, didnt get a price at Tiffanys yet tho on similar specs/size and will also try to visit other fine jewelry shops in the DC/VA area :)

just odd tho since DeBeers said the price listed is firm, no room for discounts or bargaining...(on items less than 10K USD)

1.75 tccw studs should NOT be $10k unless they're E VS1 Ideal cuts. . . adn really, who needs that on their ears? LOL!

Ideal, Excellent, . . . it just depends on who certifies it or brands the cut.
There's Heart on Fire and other brands like that.

If you were looking for a 1.75 solitaire for your hand I woud look into those brands possibly, but if you get a GIA certified pair you can trust it's certification and excellent will give you a TON of fire.
