Default "Les must de Cartier" tank
Hi

I just bought a "Must de Cartier" watch.
I read at Cartier's webpage that the "Must de Cartier" Tank watch, was their first watch and a favorite of Yves Saint Laurent.

As far as I am concerned "Must de Cartier" watches has been discontinued and the watches is now just called "Cartier", does anybody know why that is?

In your opinion is a "Must de Cartier" Tank less worth than a Vermeil "Cartier" Tank or is it just the name that is different?

Wow bummer :( That's not what the cartier page said. So it's kind of like just cavalli or d&g or Marc by Marc?

"In 1973, Robert Hocq, president of Cartier Paris, asks someone in his staff what Cartier stands for. "Cartier It's a must!" was the cocky and proud reply. Robert Hocq then fully grasps the meaning of the expression and becomes aware that a revolution in the industry of luxury goods is in the making. He coins the formula and his aim is to meet the needs of this new luxury which is both functional and international. As a result of the succes of the Cartier lighter, Robert Hocq in 1968 decides to create Les Must de Cartier, the immediate evocation of an international expression."

"In 1977, Cartier creates a vermeil watch with a contemperary dial: the watch Tank Must de Cartier; the very first collection of vermeil watches with a mechanical movement is born. It is acclaimed by all and becomes Yves Saint Laurents's fetish object; is the watch he chooses to wear in his wrist in 1984 when famed American photographer Irving Peen shoots his portrait." From Cartier's webpage.

Thank you so much. Yeah it is beautiful right?
I am such a awful snob. A cheaper style is really fine by me but a cheaper line would be a little bit harder for me, which is so awful because I just love the look of the watch and I really can't afford to be that picky.

hopefully this is just a hiccup and you grow to love the watch and forget about the 'cheaper line' stuff. it's classic. it's a woman's watch, right?
did you get it online or from a watch dealer?

I am also a proud owner of a Les Must de Cartier, so I found the article interesting. I bought my watch around 1980. It has the ivory face with roman numerals. The fact that the watch is a cheaper version of the original Cartier Tank doesn't bother me at all because it's still a classic and makes a beautiful statement. After having it so many years and wearing it every day(in spite of the fact that you have to WIND it daily), I took it to Cartier and had a new Burgundy, croc, or lizard band put on. I don't remember which one and I don't want to dig thru a closet at 8:05.

Don't give it another thought, and enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
