Default How Much Tiffany is too Much?
I personally own at least twenty pieces of Tiffany silver acquired in the past year and a half. All of it is silver and titanium, of course.

I was wondering, do the people in this forum think that plenty of silver or a couple of pieces in gold and platinum are better? I'm also concerned because Christmas is coming up and I have a thousand or so to burn, should it be three Elsa Peretti designs in silver or one in gold?

Personally I find their silver very high quality compared to other lines and enjoy wearing something new every day. And I also go for Gucci, etc. when it comes to silver.

What do you think? Is Tiffany silver the "coach" of fine jewelry? I think I'm satisfied with it. Any thoughts?

Well, you use the term "Coach" of fine jewelry and I kinda see what you mean. On the other hand, I love Coach in their fine leather things that look unique. What I can't stand anymore is the signature stuff or the stuff that LOOKS too Coach. You know, the same designs that come out every year. In regards to Tiffany, I think the same thing - Hate all the RTT stuff, not a big fan of Elsa Peretti or anything that just screams Tiffany. (Just my personal opinion for my own person style).

In answer to your silver/vs Gold question, I have two opinions. One, you said that you enjoy wearing different stuff every day. I find it too hectic and time consuming. I like a couple signature pieces mixed with costume jewelry from JCrew, Lanvin or odds and ends from Nordstrom. That being said, I cut way back on my silver collection. That is not to say I don't still buy things.....I definitely do, just not as much. But for you, if you like switching it out every single day, than how can it be too much?

Second, as far as gold vs. silver - I don't do gold. I only wear silver, platinum, white gold (which might be what you meant in which case this second opinion is useless but I'll finish with it anyway:) so it would be silly of me to even contemplate which is a better value because to me, buying gold would have no value as I don't wear it. So, if you wear gold, than maybe yes it would be nice for you to have a nice piece from Tiffany, but if not, get more bang for your buck and buy three pieces of what you really like.

Platinum is lovely - my E ring and wedding ring are platinum, but if you are buying things that are not a literal every day wear piece, why not go for the Tiff silver and again, get more of what you like for your buck.

I think you sound pretty happy with your collection so I don't think you should worry what others thinks might be too much. Twenty pieces is too much to me, but only because I wouldn't wear it all. You sound like you love to utilize all your pieces so I say, carry on! HTH

i LOVE all my Tiffs. Ihave a key ring, return to tiffany bracelet, heart tag necklace, 1837 earings, silver ball earings and silver ball bracelet. i think as long as ur collection is varried (ie some earings, necklaces etc) from different lines there is no such thing as too much. one thing though is i dont pile it on... i will only wear one piece that actually says tiffany at a time (ie rtt bracelet and heart necklace have the same chunky chain so i dont wear them together)

as for tiffs beign the coahc of jewellery- i think it definetly is but i love coach

I would go for the design that you love best, be it in silver or gold. Ultimately the silver looks just as fabulous on as the gold does (especially if you know how to look after it) so its whichever design makes you feel that "i must have it" feeling.

If the design you love comes in both silver and gold, get the gold version.

I myself own about 50 pieces of Tiffany jewellery collected over the past two years including silver, yellow gold, white gold and platinum pieces and I do feel like sometimes I have too much (which is why I moved on to collecting designer bags) but I seem to always come back to Tiffanys. The 8/9 carat amethyst emerald cut cocktail ring is coming home with me this Christmas!

I watched both my daughters go through an evolution with Tiffany silver jewelry. First it was the 'Return to Tiffany' stuff (necklaces, rings, earrings), then on to other less conspicuously Tiffany silver jewelry. The Return to Tiffany jewelry is tarnished and languishing in their drawers, and most of the other stuff is starting to turn black. They've both told me they want no more Tiffany jewelry. I don't think they regret anything they have, but won't wear it any longer and don't want any more of it. It seems like a phase they each went through for 3-4 years, and they are 9 years apart in age. Depending on how much enjoyment I got while I was in the phase, I may or may not look back at this type of collecting and regret it.

Are you enjoying all of your pieces? Are your pieces silver because you chose to have more pieces vs fewer pieces in gold? Or do you not wear gold?

For myself, I did not own any Tiffany until I was in my 30s. My first piece was the Return to Tiffany in silver; 5 years later, I still love it. I kind of wish it was gold though.

I have that bracelet, toggle necklace, Frank Gehry orchid earrings (large) and the Nature Rose bangle in Silver. In gold, I have the yellow gold lock (old style), mini bean pendant, Peretti mesh earrings with diamonds. And I have a simple platinum chain for a diamond pendant my mom gave me. It's not a large collection, but I have tried to get items that I truly love and not "settle". Like I stated, I started getting Tiffany in my 30s so I am pretty sure my taste will not change; I'll always love what I have.

I'm really want a key pendant to go with my lock. I can't decide between rose or yellow gold!

But I think you should get what you really like. 3 silver pieces or one gold......which one is calling to you more?

If noone is wearing them any more, you should clean them and sell it! Being Tiffany's they would still have a great resale value compared to other generic silver jewellery. :)

And you'd be amazed what a good clean can do to perk up vintage silver jewellery.

I only have a few non-silver pieces from Tiffany but I've found the silver pieces wear better. I've had better luck with their silver.

But variety is good and a gold piece would be a nice addition to your silver collection.

some of tiffany's non silver pieces are really beautiful. perhaps you should diversify and get other non silver things. i think jewelery (no matter what brand or maker) is worth it if you wear it.

haha Thanks aquablueness, thats so sweet of you.

Well I've had a thing for their amethyst cocktail rings ever since I saw this:

thats the 8.5 carat cushion cut in yellow gold. I love the rich, vibrant colour of the amethyst in this ring. The silver ones have a lighter colour, like this:

and its a 9 carat emerald cut set in silver. I always find the emerald cut to be so elegant and less showy than cushion cuts so I thought I would go for the silver. I do want to try to find a silver amethyst ring thats a rich, vibrant dark colour like the gold so my SA said she'd keep an eye out for me. The colours vary with different amethysts but most of them are quite light.

I only have a couple of Tiffany pieces, both in 18K gold. I'd just go for whatever you want whether it be in silver or gold. I just only just decided (at the age of 44 ) that gold looks better with my skintone and so that's why I went for it (and that's why I've got so little of it !) It just depends, it just depends on you and what you feel looks best on you.

Haha... my immediate instinct was to say "There's NEVER too much Tiffany's!" LOL. I have maybe 15 pieces of silver jewelry from there collected over the last say 8 years, plus my brand new wedding band and engagement ring yay! I was kind of "off" buying from there for a while (I think b/c I'd bought everything I thought was really super cute in the silver and hadn't graduated to gold or diamonds yet) but after going in to try on e-rings (replacement for my stolen ones) I'm seriously hooked again!

I think that if you love buying pretty new things you can't go wrong with the silver. It's not cheap but it's so well designed IMHO. But I think it's possible to go overboard with one line. As the mother above suggested, try to diversify and buy some fun things and some classics that you don't think you'll shelve later. I can totally relate to her daughter's frenzied collecting and then forgetting! I am really trying to buy strategically now - classic, bigger ticket pieces that I know I'll love in years to come. I feel like I have my Tiffany's fun stuff for now. Of course my new mission will get me into much more trouble!

Someone above suggested that as long as your collection is varied (some necklaces, some earrings, some bracelets) and is not all from one line... then go for it! I've seen a few collections on the "show your Tiffany" thread and I do kind of wonder why someone would buy 3-4 chunky toggle bracelets, for example... like one with a heart, one with a circle, one RTT... I have the toggle heart bracelet and love it but have no desire to buy a 2nd one that's slightly different, KWIM? If no one else would notice that it wasn't the same bracelet I think I'd buy something different. But skulking around on the website lately I've found a LOT of pretty things to want!!

I think IMHO you should put the thousand dollars towards one really special piece since it sounds like you have lots of silver already! I wouldn't necessarily buy the exact same thing that you have, but in gold... how about some pretty earrings? A big chunky silver cuff or some diamonds by the yard... have fun and tell us what you buy!! I love love love Tiffany's reveals!!
