Default Guidance Needed
All righty, lovely tPF ladies....I need a little guidance.

My DF (see the 'Prayers and Good Karma Needed' thread in Relationships) and I are starting to shop for wedding rings. Our budget is very limited, so we want to get the best bang for our bucks.

So far, we've only been able to make short jaunts to the mall to look (due to DF still recovering). This has given us a start as to what kinds of style we do and don't like. BUT....we don't really want to buy from a mall jeweler, if we can avoid it. This might be difficult on our budget, though.

I have been doing a bit of reading and have read some things that say you can get better deals via the internet. Is this true? Has anyone done this? I am very leery of this as you can't try on the rings and all the other obvious reasons.

My engagment ring is not a solitaire, it's a band of teeny-tiny diamonds in an Art Deco setting. I am looking for something that would work with this. Probably another band of teeny-tiny diamonds.

Has anyone purchased via the internet with success? Or can anyone recommend jewelers in the Portland, Oregon area?

I need to find a ring for DF as well. He has gone from declaring over and over again that he wanted a simple, gold band....to wanting one with diamonds, too. I am still digesting that information. LOL

Thank you, ladies!

If you like vintage/vintage-style jewelry, faycullen.com has some gorgeous rings!! They have a lot of Art Deco style jewelry. It's one of my favorite websites to drool over.

I LOVE the rings at faycullen! In fact, one of them looks very similar to my engagement ring. There are two or three rings there that I like quite a bit. It's frustrating not to be able to try them on, though! I really wonder if any jewelers in my area carry such styles?

I signed up for the 'advance look', but haven't received an email about how to do it, yet.

Oh, thank you!

Part of my dilemma is that the focus isn't so much on the diamonds, as on the setting. The diamonds will be so teeny-tiny, that I am not placing a lot of emphasis on super-high quality. So I am looking for a setting that isn't a run-of-the-mill, everyone-has-it ring. I am looking for something that really represents our relationship.

^^^Faycullen has some lovely pieces, but their return policy isn't very good. We would also be glad to help you with a setting. If you like faycullen, there are other vendors that have antique or replica type settings that you might like. Let me know and I'll try to help

Oh, I totally agree! If you don't like the ring, you're basically stuck with it. And that's hard with a ring you didn't get a chance to see or try on!

Antique/replica style settings are EXACTLY what I am looking for! My eye is always drawn to more vintage styles. I would love to find some resources!

You could try:

antiqueengagementrings.com
estatediamondjewelry.com
topazery.com

I looked at all of these sites when we were looking.

I love antique style rings and have looked at this site before, but have never ordered from them.

http://www.circa1930s.com/c30shop/dwband/dwband.htm

They have vintage style reproductions and the prices don't seem super high. It looks like their return policy pretty strict though. You have to contact them within 24 hours and only have 3 days to ship the item back. I usually try to buy from places with more like a 30 day return policy.
