Default Gorgeous ring, outrageous price...
I was at the mall the other day and was looking around at the Cartier store and saw this gorgeous ring:

It was so pretty! Very glittery in the store. I was definitely in "LOVE" with this ring, lol.

However, the price is way too high for what it actually is, even considering that it's designer. I think the price was listed at almost $8,000. I get nearly 50% off and it's still not worth it. I'd rather get a big rock than all the itty bitty diamonds.

At what point do you tell yourself that it's just not worth the premium price to get the designer item?

Also, they had a spelling error in the listing. See if you can find it!

I think the spelling error you're talking about is "diamant," but I thought that was French for diamond? (Sorry if I'm mistaken; high school French was quite some time ago!)

I don't really know where I draw the line on designer items. I think the biggest consideration for me is budget. There are certain things that if I were shopping for, such as a plain wedding band, I'd be unlikely to pay a premium for at a "high-end" store when I could purchase a nearly identical ring for much less at another retailer. However, if I was in love with a particular design, then I'd most likely save up and purchase the exact ring that I wanted.

I think it's a lovely ring, and 50% off is a pretty good deal! But in the end, you are the one that has to be happy with it.

I love designer jewlery. But considering a ring which should cost around $1,000.00 is marked up to $8,000.00 is crazy.

I have bought some pieces i have bought to my jeweler.. and he has told me the retail of it.. not knowing its designer.. and its nuts.

I have a bracelet worth around $2,000.00 Designer version would be $12,000.00

I really don't follow designer jewelry, I like to create my own designs. If I want something designer (like the Chanel watch) I check to see if my broker can get it & he usually can. And to get the warranty, I'll I have to do is send it to him & he forwards it in to the designer.

I don't think that's worth it, even with the discount. For that kind of money I would rather have something more beautiful (remembering, of course, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder!) but not designer.

It's cute but I wouldn't pay what they are asking for it. I do have rings that are in that price range but they were all made for me.

My fiance has a corporate position with a company who deals with a lot of the high end jewelry designers, including Cartier. Employee discount. :)

I can just get more for the money. WAAAAAAAAAY more. Lol. I could get something equally as impressive that not everyone can have-- something that is worth the cost. Not a gold ring with a smattering of diamonds (I think it was less than 1 carat).

Like someone mentioned, I can have a jeweler create a one of a kind piece. No one else will have it and it would be far more impressive and equally gorgeous.

I just can't appreciate the $7000 premium to have a name stamped on the inside.

It's gorgeous, but it's so not worth it.
