Default gold plated watches
No offense to anyone who has a gold colored but not real gold watch. I find a gold watch kind of appealing but I don't think I'd want to spend the money for a Rolex with a gold bracelet.
That being the case, I feel like it's better to just go with stainless. I have the idea that going with a costume jewelry yellow gold colored watch would look fake. I have to admit, though, that I've never comparied a 14k or 18k gold watch and a costume one side by side.

It seems that stainless is more popular these days anyway. Anyone have thoughts on this? Agree or disagree?

I have the Michael Kors Oversized Gold Chronograph Watch - it's gold plated and I love it! I prefer it over my stainless steel watches. When I first received it (I ordered it from Saks.com), I was afraid it would look somewhat tacky, but that isn't the case at all.

I have an Hermes H-our gold plated watch with a leather strap and I love it. I don't think there is anyway of really telling the difference between a solid gold or plated in this style.

I think gold-plated is fine, and I have a watch that is. Not everyone has a solid-gold budget. Buy what you like the look of.

i can't possibly afford a solid gold watch (and probably wouldn't feel comfortable wearing the equivalent of a car on my wrist), so i have this 18-karat gold plated over stainless philip stein: http://www.bergdorfgoodman.com/store...5&ci_sku=Y0B8N

it's large but not too bulky and substantial yet totally comfortable. and it looks awesome and is supposed to make me less stressed to boot! love it.

I should probably go to a store that sells both and compare. It seems like there are different colors (brightness) of gold in the gold-plated too. I don't need a new watch anyway...always looking for something to shop for.

Another thing is many watches are plated with 3 microns of gold. The predicted wearlife is 3-5 years. It may wear off sooner on the areas most prone to contact with the watch band or on prominent areas of the watch case itself. Some manufacturers will plate 10-20 microns of gold on some higher priced watches. I had picked up one classic watch through a shopping guide that has gold-plated bracelet strap that’s just plain pretty.

That's interesting. I suppose most sales people wouldn't know about this (like in a dept store). Maybe you'd want to stick to something with a higher full retail price.

I have a gold Gucci bangle watch.I hate it.I bought the watch 12 years ago when gold was in high fashion.I dont know what to do with it now even though I get tones of complments when I have it on my wrist

so I may as well keep the watch as the price of gold and Gucci style I have has increased

Solid gold= heavy and $$$!! and it's the look that is important - not what it is made of!

I love the look of the MK watches, I would definitely go for something like that if you want the gold "look" !
