Default engagement ring setting: keep it simple or bling it out?
hello ladies!

i got engaged last week, and my fiance did a fabulous job with picking the main diamond - it is exactly what i wanted!

it is currently on a simple platinum band setting, which is what i originally wanted.

but we have to take it back to the jeweler to get it sized down, and my fiance has offered that we can change the setting if i wanted.

on one hand, i LOVE the simplicity of the solitaire - the focus is on the main diamond... it's classy and elegant

but in looking at some settings, i thought the split shank pave band was also pretty. my concern with it though is does it overpower the central diamond? is it too blingy and over-the-top?

also keep in mind that i would want an eternity diamond band for my wedding ring.

so, i want to hear your thoughts... what setting should i go for? and if you have one or the other, can you tell me why you chose that?

here is a pic of my engagement ring:

the split shank pave band

THANK YOU LADIES!

Honestly I love the simplicity of your ring, as a solitaire, and I normally hate solitaires. Lol. However the example you posted is beautiful and I'm sure it would look stunning with the addition of your EC.

I've personally outgrown the desire to have an engagement ring with a ton of pave or small diamonds. It's definitely become a giant trend and it just doesn't thrill me anymore when I see them.

Definitely play around in shop and get what gives your heart a flutter, but I think your fiance did an excellent job picking out a beautiful emerald cut and I would choose a setting that wouldn't clutter the stone. The reason why I LOVE seeing Asschers and emerald cuts is they give off a different kind of light and seeing a ton of round diamonds with their rainbow sparkle takes away from that. Have you thought about maybe side baguette diamonds?

i love the simplicity of an emerald cut diamond, i don't care for it with pave

it is my favorite shape, and a beautiful stone on it's own

congratulations!

I love the ring the way it is - your DF has chosen well. How sweet of him to offer to have it reset if you want it. Either way, do as your heart desires.
It will look very nice with a diamond wedder.
Congrats on your engagement.

I think it's beautiful the way it is and wouldn't change it at all.

I think your solitaire is gorgeous as it is. Would you consider blinging it out with the wedding band instead? There are many beautiful diamond eternity bands - EC, asscher, RB, princess, marquise....the list is endless

Keep is simple and gorgeous just like it is! Stunning!
(I don't even think you even need a band next to it)

I agree - I like it the way it is -
I am a fan of the split shank, but I think it may take away from your center stone. Perhaps keep the band skinny the way it is now, and then add pave diamonds to only the band?

you guys are the best!

miss socialite, gimmethebag, lilmsamy, peace43, guccimamma, vancleef fan, chpwhy, goldentouch, diadiva, brulee, kellybag and jeneen!!!

the vote is unanimous - keep the simple setting!

i am glad since i was leaning towards that way too, and i have made my final decision to keep the setting as it is...

as for my wedding band, i do want to get an all diamond eternity band, so that will be the extra bling then
