Default E-ring dilemma: switch or not?
So I recently got engaged, which I am very excited about. I like my engagement ring, but wanted something sparklier. To his credit, I did tell him I wanted something unique and not a run of the mill design.

So his chosen style is pretty unique and has interesting detailed scrollwork, but perhaps bc it's so detailed, it's hard to get diamonds in there big enough to have much sparkle. He told me I could switch it out if I wanted to.

I took a look at some other designs, and really like the last photo...a tapered pave band. I know it's not as unique although a possibility is to change the prongs to a more detailed setting. However, doing this would require a custom piece which gets into another price point altogether. The jeweler is getting us all the different price points so I'm not even sure how much more yet they are.

Girls - I am conflicted. I do like the sparkle (though I know I get that from the center stone) but am I not being true to my original want of something unique? Or else go into a potentially much higher category of custom work?

What do you guys think? Which do you like better?

I think your DF did a great job picking out your stunning ring. You wanted something really sparkley and I think your ring does it. However, I can't help but be taken back at the photo of the other option. It's beautiful and simple. Delicate yet loaded with bling. Personally I like the other option better but the other one is sweet because your loved one chose all those details on it! Sorry I'm not much help!

I think the engagement ring he gave you is gorgeous, but then I'm partial to extremely detailed and intricate bands on engagement rings. If you think you won't be happy until you get more sparkle, then go for the second option. Personally though, I'd keep the one he picked out for you if it was me.

I like your original ring more than the new one you've chosen. If you want to add sparkle, you could add eternity bands / stacking rings to your engagement ring after the wedding.

You should definitely keep it. Such a gorgeous and unique ring! And it's really sparkling in my opinion. Besided it's a ring he chose so I would never switch it.

The origonal ring is gorgeous! It looks just like the Whitehouse brothers design... so pretty and detailed--and you dont see much of that kind of work anymore :)

Thanks girls! The center stone is sparkly but I felt the sides aren't so much. He says to go with whtever makes me happy but I know wht you guys mean about it being less meaningful. So besides the sentimental factor (which don't get me wrong will be a huge factor in my final decision) you think its prettier too?

Honestly, I say go with whichever one YOU think is prettier. You're the one who will be looking at it for the rest of your life. Ultimately, it's YOU who has to be most satisfied with it, so pick the one that you desire most.

I LOVE the ring he got you. The second one is pretty and very blingy, but the pave diamonds are going to need much more maintenance, plus it seems as if the prongs were 'stuck' on the ring, rather than being an integral part OF of the ring, as they are in yours.

Just my opinion, but I say keep that gorgeous ring you have! And you can definitely stack diamond bands with it for the added sparkle factor!
